Red Wings Rolling!

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
In the desert of Phoenix, Arizona tonight the Coyotes took on the Red Wings in a Pacific/Central showdown and there was no sign of any fault in the Wings offensive play tonight beating the Coyotes 4-1 and once again Holmstrom finds himself back on the score sheet not just once but twice! Holmstrom scored the 1st goal of the game late in the 1st to make it a 1-0 lead for the Wings. Phoenix would spoil the party with a goal from Matthew Lombardi to put the Coyotes on the board to tie it at 1-1. Holmstrom once again in the second would put the Wings back in the lead at 2-1. Into the third Datsyuk would score on a Wings PP to give Detroit a 3-1 lead in the third. In the last minute of play Darren Helm netted an empty net shot to ice the game an give the Wings the 4-1 victory on the road. Detroit now has 48 points and is showing good signs of improvement in play going into January.

can anyone else believe that jonathan quick was selected to team usa over howard...and craig anderson!?

Don't get me started on Anderson, but Quick is a solid goalie. Red Wings goalies have a lot of success because of the Wings system, and their D. Granted, Detroit's D hasn't been as vaunted as years past, but any defense that boasts Lidstrom has to be considered as one of the leagues best. I'm just surprised DiPietro wasn't on the roster. /sarcasm

Wing fans are like Yankee fans, Cowboy fans, Pittsburg fans (that's not meant as bad thing.) They can almost make any arena a potential home game. I know when they come in and play the Stars they are all over the AAC.

Aside from the regular bandwagon Red Wings fans, AZ actually has a large population of former Michiganders. Red Wing fans usually always takeover any arena the Coyotes have been in. The only time I can think of an exception were when the Wings first played the Coyotes in the playoffs. However, I believe the last time the Wings played the Coyotes in the playoffs there were a ton of Wings fans in their arena.

Just saw the highlights, some great saves from Jimmy tonight. If Osgood retires in the near future, (and I would speculate he will), he should get some starts soon, maybe give Howard a rest, and play in the playoffs. I've never been an ardent supporter of his, but you can't deny that he has led Detroit to some memorable wins. It's only fitting Ozzy go out as a winner.

I really like how Bertuzzi is playing right now. We all know that he has a hot streak going, but outside of that he is playing smart hockey. At the start of the season, Bertuzzi would just make ill-advised passes right to the fore-checkers, i have noticed the last few games now he is playing with a lot of smarts, passing it inside to avoid the fore-check. I love how playing in Detroit typically makes players smarter, how course with Babcock on the bench it makes sense. Who by the way should be a candidate for coach of the year, IMO.

I don't think Babcock will every be truly appreciated. He does so much for this team, and it's evident this season with all the injuries we've had. Can't believe Anaheim let this guy get away. But then again, they did win a SC after he was gone.

Bertuzzi makes it much harder for me to root for this squad. And I love me some Red Wings. I just can't get with the fact that the guy is back in the league when he should have been booted for life.

I was living in Colorado when the Nordiques moved there. I had fun talking trash to my friends while a student at Michigan. Seeing the Red Wings win makes me die a little on the inside.

This poor, poor team. First, according to this poster, several players were engulfed in flames. Now they appear to be all rapidly falling and tumbling down a hill. A sad day when no one comes to help.

I was at the game last night and it was fun to watch.. My parents live in PHX now so I get to escape to the desert for x-mas and we normally go to the Wings/Coyotes game that typically falls within a few days of NYD.. Its a bit depressing seeing all of the Boise State/TCU fans running around Scottsdale.. The Future - It would be nice to catch a Wings game on a Saturday Night and follow that up with a Fiesta Bowl where Michigan is playing for a NT.. Hmmmmmmm, sounds nice. GO BLUE!

Really nice win for Detroit. Things should pick up when they get back Zetterberg, Williams, Kronwall, and Cleary soon. The second power play unit against Phoenix was Meech, Stuart, Filppula, Abdelkader, and Rittola (!).
