Red Wings resign Darren Helm
No excuse for this.
Term and dollar amount make zero sense given his production, team needs, and his injury history.
It is time to bring Stevie Y back where he belongs.
Excuse me for a second,
FUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKK!!!
Ok, now that's out of my system, this is bad deal with no possible justification.
The rumors last night were that Helm might be on his way out, which would have suited me honestly as he kind of embodies what the Red Wings seem to be lately - just north of average and spent by the time the postseason gets here. Hopefully, this is not the only thing we do today because that move doesn't exactly fill needs, in my own opinion.

Time to bring Stevie Y home
Admittedly sick location. Dude might have been better off watching it go by.
I feel the same. I've really liked his game for years, but this is vastly overpaying.
I just have to wonder what dirt Holland has on the Ilitch family.
Marchenko signs also for 2 years at a total of 2.9M.
Radulov turned down 5 mil a year from us to sign with the Habs.
Helm resigning is obviously way too much money with far too many years. Helm's greatest asset was always his speed and the injuries have cost him a step. He could have been rather seemlessly replaced by the forward depth within the organization.
Holland just doesnt seem to get it anymore. Or is just really, truly, content with sneaking into the playoffs year after year. Perhaps hes been promised his job is safe with the streak. I don't know. His moves just don't make sense.
Guess with Stamkos resigning in Tampa, Holland just gave up. So much for building a competitive team this year...
I love Helm, but he hasn't been a top performer since his arm was gashed open in Nashville. It was time to move on from him.
so much for building a competitive team for the next 5 years
but I've never been that impressed with Helm. He seems like a solid 3rd line center, but I feel like we vastly overpaid for him.
Holland has been absolutely awful since the salary cap was introduced. He made his reputation as an "open wallet" GM. Who wouldn't have thought to sign Shanahan, Hull, Hasek, Robataille, Murphy, etc. if given the resources? Illitch let the wrong guys walk.
Shanahan and Murphy were trades and Holland was not even the GM at the time.
Since the salary cap was implemented, the only good move he's made was trading for Brad Stuart in 2008. I have a feeling he'll end up just like Joe Dumars. Hailed as the best GM at one time, only to be fired for running the team into the ground with terrible free agent signings.
Kenny Holland is the worst GM in hockey. That is all.

It's a conspiracy by the Ilitchs to make Yzerman look like a god when he returns to Detroit. Just like suffering through Hoke before getting Harbaugh.
