Since the old one was buried I took the liberty to start a fresh one close to game time.
PS I refuse to label this OT. This is a game 7 and is very topical.
9:00 PM/01:00 GMT/03:00 CET
Detroit Red Wings .....@..... San Jose Sharks
Series tied 3 - 3
thank you :)
Gut the Sharks!
Ready for as many OTs as it takes. Hopefully none, but naps rule.
Let's do this!
What about Clowe?
Still TBD but he's out there during warmups. I imagine he's in but official word has yet to come out.
Edit for officially in.
Took both the morning skate, and the warm up, but hasn't skated "hard" in any drills. But they are saying he's "game time decision" would assume he's in just matter of how much he can go.
I'm looking at you, Abdelkader.
That's what she said...poor Abdelkader
Unless he gets the GWG.
I hope the Wings win 10-0; Thornton, Marleau, and the murderer die of feline AIDS; San Jose's franchise is moved to Canada; and we burn HP Pavilion to the ground and salt the earth where it once stood so nothing can ever again grow there. I'm not too hyped, am I?
It's the only way to be sure.
Possibly the best MGoComment I've ever seen haha.
Lidstrom is gonna hit the game winner. Wings win 4-3.
Clowe's back in, and he still sucks
Franzen's still out, and he still rules
I don't think you ever actually left, but welcome anyways. I'm not BlueDragon, so I'm not going to give you a cat hug or anything, though.
Go wings no one likes the sharks they are a bunch of worthless canucks
Best in the world!
Let's go Red Wings!
That is all.
Anyone else having trouble containing how nervous they actually are?
I'm not nervous now. But if it's close in the third ...
The answer is beer. Lots and lots of beer.
<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Tqx70VYv-Yg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Come on baby, we can DO this Wings! All in for the Wings!!!
Pavelski sounds drunk
This game is going to be so intense. Im expecting SJ to come put strong out of the gate, but if we weather the storm we will dominate the control of the puck and flow of the game, leading to a strong victory for the wings. 4th time in history will be recorded tonight. This of course assumes the refs keep their whistles quiet and let the players play.......
Karen Newman >>> whoever that was.
regardless of how good she was.
However, that was somewhat terrible, as it were.
I'm nervous as hell for this game they better win.
Unless your team is playing in one, then your just a nervous wreck.
and when they go to overtime....ugh. i love/hate sudden death overtime
Why do I miss Konstantinov all of a sudden? I got a #16 jersey right before the 1997 playoffs. He was awesome.
That "best Wings memory" thread was a killer
Datsyuk and Z out there together, interesting. Dial up the pressure early.
I like Datsyuk's new nickname.
If the Wings score first this game could be over, but it's not looking like they will
Intensity is great on both sides, should be a really good game.
That is to say, I'm probably gonna stroke out in the 3rd.
Hope Bert's OK.
Double crap. PP Sharks.
My bum is on the Swedish
Sharks score first.
Why does it always have to be Thornton and Setoguchi? Those fuckin guys...
PP! Make them pay!
Sharks are playing shut down D
Really announcers? Stop rooting. The Ericsson penalty was weak, then Clowe plows into Howie and they say he embellished? FUCK YOU.
Know of any stream of FSD? I gave up after the first 5 links or so
What a fail of a PP. Almost let a shorty...
Holy slow whistle?!?!
This is really pissing me off.
Chances 9-1 in favor of SJ, WTF!
is Dan O'Halloran even allowed near a Red Wings playoff game?
I have a Helm jersey.
Announcer said PP coming up, is it true?
EDIT: It is.
good chance for Kronwall, but took too long to develop...
Our PP looks horrible. ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! Not that hard man.
with that ice. We look way too slow, just like the first three games. Clear difference from the Joe.
Kinda too late to attack like this
oh look, it's debbie downer again
you do this every year, whether it's the wings or the wolverines. there's a lot of hockey to be played in this game. If you think a 2 goal lead in today's NHL is safe, you don't watch enough hockey.
I don't understand how you come out flat for this game
If that doesn't light a fire under our ass, I don't know what will
Yeah, they weren't ready for this game. Pathetic 1st period.
Wings need to pick their heads up. One couldn't even begin to count the number of dumb passes they've made in this series.
Z and Datsyuk.
That was bullshit. Horrible horrible.
You'd think that if they cared enough to win the last 3 games, then they would care about winning game seven. Oh well, get payed and go home I guess
SOMEONE needs to kick some ass during intermission.
Need to pick it up immediately to start the second. The Wings are better than this.
Still two periods to go and maybe San Jose starts running and hiding with the lead. But man, those last two PPs looked horrible, and against an embellishing team like the Sharks you don't get a whole lot of shots with the man advantage.
FSD's John Keating said there's no word on Bertuzzi.
Well that was a piss poor last 12 mins...talk about looking about 2 steps slow the entire time.
Something's up with that ice. There's a clear distinction between our speed at home and in San Jose.
You see all that gray scum that forms on the ice? Those are the dissolved ions in the water precipitating into that solid gray slush. I curled for a while at a place that had to use city tap water for its ice, and gray slush was an issue for us as well, as well as getting the texture of the surface of the ice exactly right, and keeping the rubber foot rests that were mounted into the ice firmly attached to the ice.
the second period. Set up in the third for a chance to tie it with one shot.
period there. That was a horrible turnover by Hank, they have made more dumb passes than I can count inside there own zone in the games at the Shark Tank. They weren't doing that in the two games at the Joe.
And to add insult to injury, Bertuzzi went off with an injury. Really need big bodies to combat San Jose's size up front.
I was surprised that it was Zetterberg who turned that puck over, leading to their 2nd goal.
to feel like the Gator Bowl...
It has not been pretty....Howard is being left out to dry with the effort in their zone. Yes he should be great but with the talent he has around him they should not get dominated in the zone like they are now.
Like someone said earlier it looks like Detroit was on a 20 min penalty kill to start the game.
The Wings don't seem to play well when there's no pressure. Sometimes it's a game, sometimes a series, sometimes an entire playoffs. If there's no pressure, they often just don't play up to their potential. If any team has that mythical "switch," it's the Wings. Hopefully being down 2-0 in a Game 7 is pressure enough to flip the switch that we saw in Game 6. The skill is there; the desire needs to match it.
I still think we're gonna win but if we go down 3-0, I will begin to lose hope but let's not forget, weren't the Flyers down by 3 goals in Game 7 last season? Look how that turned out. Definitely not a position you want to be in but they still have 40 minutes of hockey left.
Hopefully Babcock can light a fire under them during the break.
I honestly have no hope. I know I deserve to be negged but were not playing good at all
Ken Daniels says Bertuzzi out with an upper body injury, won't return.
It's a shoulder injury you could tell the instant the collision happened. Bertuzzi after the contact start to favor that shoulder right off the bat.
still on a powerplay????
really like the effort from the 4th line at the end of the first as well as that last shift.
these lethargic whistles going against howie are killing me...
IN THE NET!!!
We're not out of it yet! (bertuzzi, gulp!)
Perhaps we took their best shot and have weathered.
Kronwall and Helm had golden chances. Gotta start capitalizing on those.
another Shark PP.
was THAT call?
30 minutes is a hell of a lot of time; the tide is turning.
LET'S GO WINGS!
wait, are you fucking kidding me?
hope the refs don't suffocate with their heads so far up their asses.
If they ever make a hockey version of the Harlem Globtrotters, Dan Cleary and Jonathan Ericsson will be first liners for their Washington General's counterpart.
That was a garbage call! They skate into each (incidental) and they call Datsyuk?!
Dats got RAPED by the sharks, Holmstrom get shis knees taken out (again) after getting whipped with the shark stick, and the penalty is on us?
We're getting worked in faceoffs and beaten to pucks even when we outnumber. Not looking good for the wings.
If Sharks score I hate to say it, but I think the Wings are toast. If they can kill it maybe they can get some momentum.
They just killed a penalty and then scored. I call that a momentum shift.
jackass joe with a nice trip to take eaves out of the play. someone needs to drop the gloves on him, and soon.
Let the comeback begin!
Fuck yes let's bring this shit BACK
WHAT NOW, BITCHES!
and the san jose fans boo. what a bunch of idiots.
IT'S NOT OVER!
I think I just dislocated my shoulder with a violent fist pump.
POKE CHECK OF LIFE
Ok, we have momentum, lets do this wings.
Ok, we have momentum, lets do this wings.
no, cmon, cleary....
Of all the bad luck...
Damn was that hudler running into him. Shit
Anyone else catch the announcer comment regarding Thornton's faceoff shenanigans?
Is that actually cheating or just against convention?
it is cheating, though I do feel like it is pretty common. it seems like the wings just need to harp on it until the refs do something about it.
I saw they threw out shark number 8 (name escapes me), with a point down to the ice, seemed like a crackdown on it. Wasn't thornton, though.
are down 3 top forwards. That is too much to ask of this team to try and win without those 3 guys.
the wings can do it.
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE.
great pressure. keep the pedal on the floor, the sharks can't handle it.
Hmmm, awfully fast whistle there. Seems we aren't getting quick whistles with Howard.
that's the other great double standard that exists.
What happene to Cleary?
Hudler accidentally elbowed him in the jaw.
By the way he looked coming off the ice I'd say its safe to say hes got a pretty good concussion. He collided with Hudler and took Hudler's elbow to the face
Edit: spell check
accidental blindside elbow from hudler. nasty whiplash on the hit, then hit the ice hard too. didn't look good.
The San Jose Sharks are hangin' on by their bootstraps
Fuck Dan O'Halloran.
I'm feeling a lot better about their second period play. Plenty of Sharks icings (key in both a faceoff and a line change way), plenty of offensive zone play, and a goal. I'll take it.
The wings played detroit hockey in the second half/two thirds of that period. Controlled the puck in the offensive zone, played with a solid forecheck, and kept constant offensive pressure. This looked just like the entire game 6, hopefully we can keep it up and get a few more in the net in the third...and avoid taking any stupid penalties
Sometimes it just comes down to one thing: which team is getting to the loose pucks first? If one team can out-hustle another, it shows in hockey more than in any other sport. Even a casual observer can tell which team will (in most cases) win the game when the disparity in hustle is high. The first period went to the Sharks, the second period to the Wings. The Wings just have to get to the loose pucks first, out-hustle the Sharks, win the period, and they should win the game. It is that simple.
Cleary and Hudler collided, Cleary took it hard in the head.
"Drop the puck!"
great last 10 or 12 minutes from the wings.
hope cleary is okay, but from the appearance of that hit, I don't expect he'll be back.
we're all set for another epic 3rd period comeback!
Much better period.
They're down Franzen cleary and bertuzzi damn that's too much to ask for
The Wings have been pretty consistent at playing their best in the 3rd. Here's to hoping for another great effort while down a couple guys.
Mickey about just dropping the damn puck. No wonder so many guys are getting thrown out of the faceoff, seems guys are getting antsy when they hold it hold for so long.
Red Wings dominated that period, still going to be a tall order to win missing that much up front. They have to get the next goal, that is for sure.
Still pissed that there was no call on that hook on Filpula, that such an obvious penalty. Negated a possible scoring chance.
I'm pulling my hair out. At least they out shot the Sharks and won more battles on the boards. Need to dominate the Sharks in the 3rd.
Man I miss Bill McCreary. That dude seemed to always get it right.
It's what gave him his excellent powers of discernment.
What a save by Howard!
THAT WAS A TEXTBOOK CROSS-CHECK ON HUDLER YOU CUNTS!
it'd be unbelievable... but this kind of crap happens all the time. pisses me off.
They will fly to victory on wings of red. Only a matter of time.
Can we make a team rule where Ericsson doesnt touch the puck anymore?
I heard Millen is reporting the Sharks are a lock to hold the lead this quarter.
FUCK! Another golden chance...
Monkey balls cock fucker lug nutz score will ya!
C'mon, we really need a PPG!
shoot it HUDLER! baaaah. i cant take this.
the whistle on the delayed penalty? Looked like the Wings still had the puck.
I think the new Chrysler commercials are actually my favorites now, surpassing the Dos Equis ones.
the sharks aren't elligible to be called for cross-checking, right?
you gotta be shitting me.
FUCK YOU, REFS.
what a bullshit call against Kronwall there!
That was a weak call.
if you're going to let the sharks get away with attempted murder, don't call that tic-tac shit.
The slash HAS to be called in that situation, but Holmstrom got flat-out ABUSED twice during the power play and not even a second glance from the zebras.
impact of having those guys out on the 2nd PP unit. That is where missing those guys hurts the most.
Stupid Hudler. I rarely see him do anything worth while.
all this fancy extra pass bullshit.
I don't want Thornton to actually die, but maybe just have debilitating diarrhea every time he puts on skates
sonofa motherless goat
fuck that noise.
fuck san jose.
and fuck that if holmstrom did that, they would have called interference.
/Wait a minute, I thought Setoguchi couldn't be in the paint when the goal was scored? He was behind Howard.
Perfect time for this fucking hotel internet to go down
No doubt that was goaltender interference. He skated right into Howard. Un-fucking-believable.
I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought that.
this is about when things picked up for game 5, no?
TIME TO KICK SOME ASS AND FUCK THEM UP
refs are fucking turrible...in front of the net it's like BLITZ after the whistle and yet the sharks never get whistled...
Man, they did not come prepared to play. They're playing like shit.
your talking about. Wings have played well considering the circumstances.
YES FUCK YES
Fuck yes! Not over!
now shut the fuck up, san jose dipshits.
This aint over yet!
OK, now can we get a PPG?
YEs the same BS penalty they called on us, at least slashing is going both ways.
Oh, they are killing me! At some point, beer spewn forth into laptop will equal disaster....
about fucking time they called some of that shit.
DAMN THE WINGS ARE GOOD.
TIME TO CAPITALIZE!
Well here's the game boys
the wings have been resilient enough that this will not make or break the game.
wouldn't hurt, though...
Gotta get a goal.
Oh, shakeweight commercial!
off the TV - to bed sad.
Vodka and hot wings
rot my gut
I suck at haiku
Joe Thornton blows
me swear off pasta
haikus can be hard
but sometimes they are easy
The PP has been garbage tonight. 2 minutes left to tie it...
when your missing you whole second PP unit up front. Having to put Abdelkador on the PP should tell you all you need to know.
Sharks are getting away with alot of crap these last couple of minutes.
Lids just got hit in the back of the head while chasing that puck, wtf?
Open season on bodies, but not sticks.
one time....just one time...
1:22 left...Pavs has been selling out for the puck, great effort
IF YOU DIDN'T SEE LIDSTROM GET HEAD-SMACKED NCIS-STYLE THEN YOUR HEAD IS CRAMMED SO FAR UP YOUR ASS THAT YOU ARE TALKING TO YOUR OWN PYLORIC VALVE
I LIKE YOUR INTENSITY.
ALSO LIKE THE NO SCOPE HEADSHOT FROM PAV.
On a good chance
Fuck that goalie
Wow, just wow. How could that erasure of Eaves go uncalled, even in a game 7?
fuck the refs. How do you not call goaltender interference on the Shark's 3rd goal?????
the wings have nothing to be ashamed of.
the nhl? that's another story.
Haven't felt this robbed since UM-Nebraska with the sun belt refs.
I get that Franzen, Bertuzzi, and Cleary were out, but how could Babcock continue to allow the PP unit to dump and chase when it didn't work once all night?
I hate it so so much
for this loss. Gave it there all considering the circumstances. Just to hard to overcome a team like San Jose with those guys missing.
Obviously there are no conselation prizes, but the Wngs battled hard in this series.
Great effort by the Wings, too bad it had to end.
I hate Gary Bettman.
Im trying to really tell how much of my disgust is due to my partiality, but I REALLY feel the sharks got away with a LOT, whereas the wings got a lot of really weak penalties (2 holding calls on Dats, the guy with a bad hand, come to mind)
definatly got away with alot of shit in the last 10 minutes of the game. At the very least that high stick on Lidstrom has to be called.
If that was your last, salute!
DEATH TO SAN JOSE.
Go TB Yzermans.
Victory to the Fighting Yzermans. (Don't remember who coined that phrase but credit to whomever is responsible)
Time to root for the Canucks to jailsex the sharks. The Wings shouldn't have gotten themselves in that 0-3 hole, but I really feel like they were robbed tonight. Go Canucks!
I hate this feeling as a fan, only Wings and Michigan football losses give it to me.
Nothing sports wise to look forward to until Michigan v. WMU now for me.
Im torn between the fighting Yzermans and wanting Vancouver to crush these clowns, then take the cup to Canada, just so they don't all lose interest up there.
Was I the only one who thought the Sharks third goal should have been goaltender interference?
certainly not, a few others mentioned that...
shit way to lose.
Tomas "My ass is fucking out of the crease, you asshat" Holmstrom certainly thought so.
So did every sane hockey fan (i.e. no Sharks fans).
Im amazed a random Holmstron stick nicking Niemi's blade is Goalie intereference, but actually standing behind a goalie in the crease is not. (Nor was the near removal of Howard's mask with a stick last night).
Props to Niemi again, though. The sharks really would not have been able to get ahead without him playing as if he thought hed be shot for each goal allowed.
they fought their asses off, and just had too much to overcome tonight. I have always loved Datsyuk but man, he has really moved into the elite - he had an outstanding run. As for SJ and Van, I hope they destroy each other and TB takes the cup - and Stevie can earn yet another ring! Go T-Bay!
where on earth was Juri Hudler's head tonight? He was garbage all game long making bad decisions leading to turnovers. I was pointing it out during the game then 2 seconds later he clocks Cleary coming across the ice! What the hell was that all about?!?! I would have rather put 4 on the ice with that line than have sent him out there tonight.
how about the VS announcers who couldn't stop sucking Joe Thornton's big one all night long, yet the guy isn't even one of the 3 stars of the game. WTF.
There were only 2 teams I thought could beat the wings. Vancouver and San Jose, Detroit made one hell of a run and if the puck bounces a little different in a couple games maybe Detroit wins this series 4-2. For everything Detroit faced injury wise in this game and throughout the series with Franzen, Detroit fought one hell of a good fight.
Datsyuk is the best overall player in the NHL. Thornton is not that great; he relies on his size too much and dives when things don't go his way. If NCAA refs aspire to be NHL refs, and NHL refs are the best in the biz, then judging by current and future refs, NHL officiating is fucked for a long time. Niemi is not that great; the fat bodies in front of him kept more pucks out of the net than he did. Bettman wants a warm weather champion - Stanley Cup Finals will be SJ / TB. TB will win if God really does want us to be happy.
Niemi is pretty damn good. He had to stand on his head these past couple of games just to keep the Sharks in it. Blocks from fat bodies helps, but he made some amazing saves tonight and Tuesday.
NHL officiating has been and will continue to be fucked as long as people like Dan O'Halloran are allowed to be present at games like this and Gary Bettman is in a position of authority.
Glad the Wings battled to the end. Sad to see that injuries ravaged the top 6.
Changes should be coming. Hopefully Lidstrom comes back and some new blood is brought in. GO WINGS!
Both teams fought hard, and every game was a crapshoot. The situation could have easily been reversed. Here's a shout out to every single Michigan sports radio host... F*CK YOU!!!!!! Almost every single one of them picked Detroit to win the game, once again proving their ignorance when it comes to all things hockey. EVERY SINGLE GAME this series was 50:50, and this one was no different.
As far as the game went, how long is it going to take for people to realize that Jimmy Howard is a choke artist? He has yet to steal a game for us in his playoff career. Game 5 MAYBE but I'm sorry a 3 goal game is not a bonafide steal. And throughout the first 3 games, whenever San Jose absolutely needed a score, he always let a softie slip through. The guy has proved NOTHING so far other than that San Jose is his daddy. It was the Red Wing offense scoring 3-4 goals a game that allowed us to come back.
Oh how I long for the days of Hasek, a guy who posted FIVE, count em, FIVE shutouts en route to the 2002 Stanley Cup. Obviously it's hard to compete with the GOAT but it just goes to show that to win it all you need a goalie who won't choke in the playoffs. Howard was 1-8 in 1 goal playoff games coming into game 4. He's now 3-9. That is not going to get you anywhere. Of course he has a long way to go in his career but presently he is NOT the elite goaltender so many pundits have pegged him to be. Somebody has got to start calling him out on it. I'm tired of everyone acting like Jimmy Howard has ever truly stolen a game for the Wings in the postseason.
How many shutouts have there been in the playoffs total this year? I guarantee it's lower than five. The Left-Wing Lock is no longer an accepted practice in the NHL. Yes, he gave up a few softies, but Howard did great during these playoffs. He may not have stolen more than one game, but he gave the Wings a chance to win every game they played.
played well in this series and in the playoffs overall . Game 1, Game 2 and Game 5 could have been blowouts in favor of San Jose, without his efforts. Game 5 easily could have been 5-1 or 6-1 at the end of two periods, without his efforts. Howard was also the only reason why the Wings had a lead late in Game 1, when they were throughouly outplayed in that game. Jimmy was shaky during the regular season, but his play in this series is one of the major reasons why the Wings almost pulled it out.
Jimmy had a .925 save percentage in the playoffs. That is very good save percentage, it does not indicate a choke whatsoever. There were two or three goals he may like to have back, but over the course of a seven series any goaltender could say it. Overall though he made a ton of difficult saves in this series, and gave the Wings a chance in this series.
I just said that he's a chokejob. He was 1-4 in games the Wings were expected to win (I will be gracious and count game 4 as an expected win). It's much easier to come through in lower pressure situations like game 5 where nobody would have criticized him if he'd folded. Yes, I suppose some of the games could have been blowouts but Jimmy Howard is not flat out terrible. When I say chokejob, I mean he simply gives up goals in key situations and always lets in just ONE too many at the end of the day. Howard is now 3-9 in 1 goal games over the past two years and 0-3 in overtime. You are not going to get anywhere with that kind of record. The .925 save percentage is impressive but it's the timing of the goals that matters most.
Please note I do not think Howard is not a worthy goalie but until he proves he can come out with wins in the close ones or post multiple shutouts he is not elite. The only reason I am pointing this out is that in hockey goaltending is truly what carries you through the playoffs.
think about the fact that hockey is a team game? A goaltenders record is not a great indicator of how well a goaltender is playing individually, save percentage is however. Howard's high win total during the regular season despite a subpar save percentage is the perfect example of that. The Wings as a team did not make enough key plays in those close games.
You act like he gave up soft goals left and right in this series. By my count there was 2 or 3 that could be classfied as soft over the seven games, and 1 of those was meaningless as it came in a Red Wings win. None of the goals tonight were soft, he had no shot at two of them and the other was a perfectly placed shot off a bad turnover.
Is there room for improvement with Jimmy Howard? Absolutely, but calling him a choker based on his play in these playoffs is completely unfair.
were not terrible but I think you're hard pressed to say he had no chance on the 3rd goal, considering he made the initial save then let the rebound dribble underneath him.
And my choker label is based on the past two years not just this series. In case you've forgotten we lost game 3 last year in overtime after being up 3-1. He had a chance on every goal that game too.
Not only is Howard 0-3 in OT but he has yet to make it past the 11-minute mark. You are not going to win very many games if that's the longest you can last before letting one through.
Obviously we have irreconcilable opinions when it comes to Jimmy Howard's play this postseason but thanks for not being a jerk about it.
I can understand why I'm taking flak from the Howard camp on this one but please enough with the -1.
and explain exactly why I feel this way, but I don't think you're worth it, so I'll just post my remark.
You're an asshole. Go fuck yourself.
gets tagged for flamebait and yet this tool gets to write "You're an asshole. Go fuck yourself?" How pleasant.
And this is not the first time blastbeat has personally attacked me with some form of the "go fuck yourself" line...
because it was dumb and saying Howard is a choker when he played well in the series is liable to draw some negative reponses. I don't know what series you were watching if you thought Howard choked. He stood on his head at times, particurly in Games 1, 2 and 5 to keep the Wings in those games. The Wings did not lose this series because of Jimmy Howard, he gave the Wings a chance to win every game. Not having home ice advantage, injuries and bad play in the first two games is what doomed the Wings, pinning the blame on Howard is flat out dumb.
so I apologize if that's how you and a few other (considerably ruder) people have interpreted it. But I stand by my belief that Howard has choked vs. San Jose the past two years. 2-8 vs the Sharks in 1 goal games and 0-3 in overtime cannot be explained away by injuries and home ice advantage. Especially overtime. All too often NHL overtime is just a staring match between the two goalies and so far Howard has blinked first in his first three outings. As for the rest of the series, you can't just assume a boost from Franzen would have lead to more goals. Niemi is a rebound machine but he's a proven winner and he played well all seven games. And anyway if you really think injuries are the problem you might as well shut the door on the Datsyuk/Zetterberg era, because given our age that's definitely not something that's going to go away anytime soon.
As far as the overtime goals go, I do realize they were tipped, so we are all too wont to chalk it up to bad luck, but the fact is, in the NHL playoffs you make your own luck. History is not going to give Jimmy Howard credit for standing on his head and still losing.
track record in the playoffs and the way he was playing in the first round, i think it is a safe bet that him being able to factor into this series would have been a big difference. Once again this is a team game, a goaltenders record is not just the product of his own play. Howard wasn't that good last year against SJ. Howard was much better in this series and was not one of the reasons why the Wings came up short. The Wings had too many stretches where they played very poorly in this series and SJ controlled the play, that has jack to do with Jimmy Howard.
Like I said this series doesn't even get to Game 6, without his play in the first two periods of Game 5.
and some other good showings but in overtime and game 7 he blinked first.
We certainly had plenty of chances against Niemi tonight, I might add...
