Red Wings draft Dylan Larkin
MICHIGAN'S Dylan Larkin.
The best part is, he's gonna be here at a MINIMUM of 3 years. That's if he blows up and is winning a Hobey.
Thank you, Wings.
Them signing Luke Glendening to the multiple year deal pulled me in and this officially confirms the reunification of the Red Wings and Michigan Hockey fans.
and despite what babcock said at that press conference this spring, it might not be quite as crazy as you think....
You'll get laughed at like you're a man in 1900 saying we'd put a man on the moon, but the Babcock-to-Michigan rumors are well sourced. Brian and several Daily guys have heard it from real people.
I'll believe it when it happens, but it annoys me a bit that people think this has been a fairytale rumor someone made up on the board. It's been a sustained, very well sourced rumor for at least two years
I buy that it's legitimately sourced and that he's considered it. I just don't buy that he'd do it outside of getting ousted out of Detroit (which has as much chance of happening as me Kate Upton and Olivia Wilde having a weekend long wife-approved 3some)
I don't know about you, but my wife would 1000% sanction that event, IF I could pull it off! Here's to trying!
My wife would absolutely sign off on that were it a possibility. Not that it's a possibility.
mine too! Let's get Babcock behind the Michigan bench.
and it's not as far -fetched as it might seem. it's been a few decades, but that used to be my dressing room too. not making bold predictions at this point (i did last year) since babcock poo-poohed those rumors this spring, but like i said, it could happen.
and that is a lot different than 'no way jose, silly rumors, stop or i'll have one of the resident nuns hit you with a ruler'.
sounds like a great trip for you and mogwife, too. good for you guys.
If he's as good as the Red Wings seem to think he is, he'll be gone no later than after his sophomore season. You can take that to the bank.
A winged helmet then a winged wheel,
Most likely will be a winged eagle-headed lion before being a winged wheel.
It's been 21 years since Detroit drafted a Michigan player. Last to be picked was Kevin Hilton in the 3rd round of the '93 draft
Complete history of Wolverines drafted by the Wings-
Draft | Player | Pos. | Rd. | Pick # |
1974 | Don Dufek | F | 6 | 99 |
1982 | Greg Hudas | D | 7 | 128 |
1988 | Don Stone | F | 12 | 248 |
1991 | Mike Knuble | F | 4 | 76 |
1993 | Kevin Hilton | F | 3 | 74 |
2014 | Dylan Larkin | F | 1 | 15 |
how did aaron ward get here?
Per HockeyDB, traded from the Winnipeg Jets to the Wings for Paul Ysebaert.
#5 overall pick by the Jets.
played football.
He did that, too.
He did. Him and Al Wahl are the only two Wolverines to be a two-sporter (I believe) with Football and Hockey.
Go Blue, and Go Wings!
Congratulations to Dylan Larkin and welcome to the @DetroitRedWings organization. Looking forward to play with you.

Best part about this is the Wings are so patient with prospects they probably won't be trying to push him out of school like some other teams.
The hockey people at TSN say he is like Darren Helm with good scoring ability (elite skater), and a couple of the hosts said that he had captain potential in the NHL. Given the issue with leadership at Michigan recently, this could be a really nice addition. Guys who play at high speed and are willing to be team players are nice to have.
His leadership would be great, but I think last year showed that leadership wasn't the issue. We had Copp and Compher trying to drag the team to victory but I think there was deadweight on the team that was going to remain deadweight one way or another. Parting with them will hopefully result in a bounceback this year
I cover Detroit's prospects for Hockey's Future and Larkin was my pick in the staff mock draft, so I'm pretty excited about this pick. I think it's a great fit for both parties. Trading Jarnkrok and Sheahan earning a full-time NHL gig thinned the prospect ranks up the middle in the Wings system. Larkin gets time to develop and, though unlikely that he stays four years, he won't be rushed to join the pro ranks.
He's a great skater, he can score, and he plays defense. Can't ask for much more in a center.
