Red-Shirt Status

so with one game to go, who didn't play?

QB - McCaffrey

RB - Taylor

WR - Martin (Black - played, but likely medical RS)

Tackle - Hudson, Stueber, Honigford

Guard - Filiaga, Hall

DE - Vilain

DT - Irving-Bey, Jeter, Paea

LB - Singleton, Anthony

is that accurate?

even before accounting for 2018 recruits it looks like the defense backfills those leaving pretty handily

time to develop some of those offensive tackles!!!

edit to add Black

assuming he is relatively healthy for the full slate of bowl practices. Redshirting gives both Black and the team more options moving forward but I wouldn't begrudge him wanting to get back to full speed ASAP to compete in a bowl game and get in some more development. He's almost certainly not going to be here for 5 years.

And if he leaves early, as most people seem to expect him to do, then you actually did nothing except bench him for an extra game. Play him. Michigan has recruited WRs well enough to not need to worry about the depth chart four years from now. If you can recruit at that elite level, and you trust your staff with player development, screw redshirts. Play the best kids whenever they are ready.

Skeptical why? This happens every year. He’s getting his redshirt. Freshmen play in the first few games every year and then we never see them again the rest of the season. All get their redshirts. Not sure what exactly you’re skeptical of, considering every team in the country does this.

Expecting some of these guys to really start to contribute.  Defense will be top tier again and offense will definitely be better!  Start the hype train!

GO BLUE!!
