That comment is ignorant on so many levels. Not the least of which is from an acoustical standpoint you have no idea what they heard on the field. The Ohio chant may have been heard by the M fans who were nearby, but not by the recruits, some (or all?) of which are on the sideline. Yet, "booooooo" is a very easily distinguishable sound.

The O-H-I-O chant was circling the stadium, the same way the M-I-C-H-I-G-A-N chant does, with different sections of the stadium calling out each letter. Once the O-H-I-O chant built up, so it was audible around the entire stadium, that's when the boos started. It was obvious to everyone at the stadium that boos were directed at the OHIO chant. It may not have been obvious on TV, but there's no one at the stadium who could have misunderstood the intent.

Every time it happened, the O-H- started to go around and everyone could hear it starting, then the booing kicked in and then the band started to play something to drown it out. It was pretty obvious what was going on. Also, most of it was during timeouts, so we're kind of just sitting there anyway - booing for any other purpose would have been more confusing than anything.

I ran into Tony Grimes; he gave every impression that he had done a lot of official visits before, and that this was all business, and not just a big football-party. Naturally, everybody wants to give him a shout-out and get him to come here. I looked for Cullen Christian and didn't see him; did anybody see him? What was he wearing? Anyway, I saw that there's another thread already aimed at the issue of OSU fans getting tickets, and my not-so-technical partial explanation is there. There are actually three large blocks of tickets routinely allocated to visiting teams: the low rows in Section 44 are "team" (players and coaches families) tickets. The low rows in the south endzone are typically made available to visitors alumni and boosters. And the high rows in the south endzone are visitors' student-ticket allocations. All of the lower-row seats, which aren't so great, do seem to get a disproportionate amount of television coverage. And yes, on cooler days, scarlet jackets do seem brighter and more numerous in a sea of navy blue jackets.

I think he was wondering why I was crying, hanging onto his leg and begging him not to go away. "Plleeeeeaaaaase, Tony, you can start next September!" Otherwise it was just an ordinary encounter... P.S. (By the way, Grimes is BIG. Big for a corner, at least. I have no idea if he or anybody else is thinking about him being a Safety some day. I don't much care. What I want for X-mas is Tony and Cullen.)
