Recruiting Updates

Submitted by MJ14 on

Well I think we all could use a little good news after that loss tonight. So first let me start with the bad news and just get that out of the way.

According to Coach Brown from The M Block, we will not be getting Artavis Scott at Michigan.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, the good news.

@coachbrown3 who you think the next commit will be?

@jkillinit248 I think it maybe Tommy Doles. Who knows though, the Mone commitment kinda snuck up on me...tough to say.

Maybe...just maybe, on commit watch this weekend again. #goblue

Word on the street is both Mike Webber and Drake Harris are visiting this weekend. Harris was originally only coming back for the IU game, but according to 24/7 sports, he'll be in AA this weekend.

Accuracy is a big deal. Look at it this way, Shane had a horrible Oline in high school so many people attributed his accuracy issues to that. Going to the E11 camp and not being able to check down is an issue because he didn't have to worry about being sacked. I feel like he felt he had to prove something and tried to fit balls into tight windows with his arm, something that will burn him in the future.

Whom would you suggest as an alternative?  It's not like the world's foremost quarterback gurus are beating down the door to rate high school quarterbacks.

The guy had a very good college career at Fresno State, had a decent NFL career, and won a Super Bowl.  I think Michigan fans just don't like his ratings because he doesn't always have the most favorable things to say about guys we like (Shane Morris, for example).

Nope, I'm a real person, with a real life. Though sometimes I wish I was just some pretend person, so I didn't have to do all this homework at IU. If RDT or whoever wanted to do it for me, that's fine by me.

I sure do! Do you? I only assumed your SB meant South Bend. I know a good family from South Bend who are all Michigan fans. Anyways, yes I attend IU in Bloomington. Are you an IUB student as well? I've seen a few around in my time in Bloomington, and I always want to yell go blue or something.

Cole was the prediction everyone was making before the weekend. Doles is another safe money bet. We're filled to the brim with talented interior linemen, we can't possibly take that many more in this class, so if he wants to come, he'll drop sooner than later. He's also the last guy left on the board for 2014 who's said Michigan is his out and out leader.
What Brown essentially said here is "I guess the most likely guy to commit will be the next to commit. Unless he isn't."

I don't know, maybe he is the next Lorenz. It seems to me he's trying to be by getting ahead of the curve for 2015. But as it is, he's never said anything to make me trust any cryptic tweets of his.

....has been careful to not say we "lead," though he's made multiple comments on us setting the standard. High on us? yes. Likely to commit? Yes. Said we lead? Not unless that happened in the last day or two.

I apologize that my english. I meant he'll be in Ann Arbor. Also, if anyone on here can see IP addresses, I'd love for mine to be posted. I bet anything it says I'm in Bloomington. In fact, I live right off of 3rd street, next to the Henderson parking garage. If you'd like to come visit, please do.

As far as the Harris thing, I meant he'll be in Ann Arbor the next 2 weekends. I apologize for any confusion due to my poor english.

I think it's funny how people pick and choose who's 'Legit' enough to follow for Michigan information.... If the guy has some nice interviews, solid information, and new contacts... Why is he any less valuable than Rivals, Scout or 247?

Only than making you pay for it, what's the differene between these guys?

IMO, absolutely nothing...

Just because somebody has a paywall for information, it doesn't make the info any more or less valuable, and it sure doesn't make their contacts any better...

I am all for free information and I'd rather see these sites be free for everyone. But my qualms with coach brown stem from claims that his ways of getting info are just by contacting kids ad nauseam and his recent prediction of Drake Harris committing while the kid is still committed elsewhere and his recent tweets about what happened at 247. It's rather unprofessional and if he wants credibility that certainly isn't the way to do it. Furthermore, he knows that the guys at 247 aren't fond of him so why does he go into their forums and post his information? Seems like he's trying to troll the 247 guys. He should just post info on his site and let other people spread the word but that just isn't the case

A couple things about that...

a) I only started posting links when Tremendous did. I used to be against it (except for putting links in my sig).

b) I asked Brian's permission before doing so, and he gave me the green light.  I usually limit the threads I start to recruit/player interviews and prospect scouting reports, since those are always heavy topics of discussion in any recruiting thread.

Is that not what Steve does/did? Twitter stalk? I don't follow Steve. He lost me on the first night when he put Jayme Thompson on commit watch when he never even had an offer. All I know is when I did check out his Twitter feed, 70% of it was asking a kid for a follow on Twitter. How can Webb be so much better at the whole recruiting thing and not do that once? Too bad he is affiliated with such an awful site.

1. Yes, Steve screwed up there. But he learned from it and grew credibility by reporting more professionally and objectively. I have seen nothing to suggest that Coach Brown is looking for professionalism. He looks more like a Michigan slappy from a message board who just goes the extra mile and calls the recruits instead of just tweeting them.

2. Webb is well connected inside the Athletic Department and the coaching staff. So there may be guys good at contacting the prospects, their parents, and their coaches, but they'll be a step behind.

I completely understand how you can prefer some over others, and I think Sam is the best in the business...But, I hate how people act like you have to charge people for your info. to be a part of the club...

Half of the people in the business started out by being the 'wannabe bloggers,' and they look down on where they came from...

I don't know.... I just like seeing information on Michigan football and recruiting, and I couldn't care less who it comes from as long as it's respectful to the student athletes being interviewed.
