Recruiting update from the game

Submitted by TomVH on
Just got a text from VA linebacker Aramide Olaniyan, who is at the game today. "This is amazing! I have never been to a game where the atmosphere is as crazy as this! The fans are great, and have been treating me well so far!" I'll have more as the day goes on. I probably won't have anything more until after the game.

What are the recruits doing now? Do they go to tailgate parties and stuff? I hope the Victor walk is impressive, then they go inside the stadium and become overwhelmed. Do the recruits stand on the sidelines together?

They meet with the coaches, and some players before hand. They are going to check in in about an hour. They are only allowed on the field for the pre-game, then they go to their seats once the game starts.

He will probably on the field for the banner. They will be sitting at or near the 50, in the first couple of rows. I was recruited for golf back in the early 00's and we sat in the same spot, although a few rows behind the football/basketball kids. Recruits of all sports generally sit in that area together... first 10 rows. He will have a direct view of the tunnel and touching the banner if he is not on the field for it. It will be an amazing experience for him.

My coach got recruiting tickets (he knew someone on staff) for us and I got to go to a game and get the gameday recruiting experience. It was a blast. We walked around by staff with the other recruits and toured the weightroom, practice facilities and such. We got to walk out on the field (well before the game started) and watched from the stands. Got to see both Desmond and Wheatley play against Purdue in '91. I was being recruited at the time by a MAC school so it was pretty to compare with that respect.

do you know what the rules are about contacting recruits while they're on campus? I know the Rivals guys aren't allowed to contact official visitors during their visit. Does that rule extend to bloggers, or is that something that Rivals and UM agreed on or something? I got the impression it was an NCAA rule.
