The Recruiting Trail

Submitted by varney_go_blue on

I'm just curious what everyone thinks/knows about some of the recruits we have coming in next year. I look on Rivals and Scout but I just don't think I can get a well rounded answer about our recruits from that site

I personally am anxious to see what we have coming in on the defensive side of the ball. I've been impressed by Marvin Robinson. The dude can flat out play ball.

Any thoughts?...

IMO, Devin Gardner will be the biggest player to come from this class. QB is the most important position on the field and he has the body and arm to get the job done.

Marv Robinson and Ken Wilkins should do work on this defense. I'm especially excited about Wilkins because he has great speed for his size as an 18 year old high school senior already. Robinson is an all around talent on an all around bad team.

Christian Pace is the only O-Lineman in this class so far and it will probably end this way. He seems tailor made for the interior of this offense and I think he'll surprise people eventually.

Ricardo Miller has great size for a wideout and I think his hype has fallen after great expectations to be a five star early on and his drop to a 5.7. I think he is underrated and will be a big impact guy at Michigan for awhile.

My dark horse for this class is Stephen Hopkins. Great size and mobility in a great division of football in Texas country.

I'm not a recruiting guru but I do pay attention to it and here's my impression.

Overall, not quite as good as last year's class but still solid and will add talent and depth at posiitons of need.

Gardner, obviously is a stud and someone to be excited about.

We have a ton of RB, slot and WRs coming in, which will add depth.

We have some solid players coming in on D to be excited about, esp. at DE, Wilkins and Paskorz.

Obviously the secondary is a major place of need. At Safety, we have Robinson and Johnson coming in, and a couple corners so far. We're in it for several elite, as yet uncommitted DB prospects, most notably Cullen Christian, who will likely commit to M. Christian is long thought to be a near-lock for M. Other DBs we're in good shape for, Mathis, Knight, etc. We're in it with enough good DB prospects that there's reason for confidence that the class will fill out nicely as far as that goes.

Needs that I would like to see further addressed:
- OL. So far, just 1 commit, Christian Pace. If we could get 1 or 2 more, that's always a good thing. That's doubtful in this class but not a huge deal for us right now. If we get Sentrel Henderson, a beast OT from MN, that would be nice but it's doubtful.
- DT - We're thin there but very few good prospects out there.
- LB - We're still in it w/ highly touted Aramide Olaniyan and Josh Furman. Getting both would be f'n sweet beyond belief, getting 1 would be great.

In summary, we're getting a stud QB, adding depth at skill positions on offense. On D, we'll end up with a good haul in the secondary and are getting a couple good DEs. Overall, this is a pretty good class. If we can add a couple good LBs, maybe another good OL and a DT, it'd be a really good class, all things considered.

i agree. As far as OL,we made a good haul last year and they are all redshirting so i don't see that as a big problem.Lewan, schofield, and Washington should all be in the mix for PT next fall.

what i'm worried about at this point is if osu has a ton of fans in the big house, tp puts up 50 pts on us and embarrasses us on our biggest recruiting weekend of the season. i really hope the fans come out in droves and we give a damn good fight. go blue.

I don't think we'll end this year with Christian Pace as our only offensive lineman. I don't know who will be added, but I just don't see that happening.

We only have 12 offensive linemen returning, plus Pace. That's barely enough for a two-deep.
