Recruiting Snapshot: (edit: 2012) , 2013 and 2014 Classes - Top 5 Nationally at Position
With the recent commitment of Peppers, I thought it'd be interesting to see how many of the last 2 (edit: now 3) classes of recruits were considered top 5 nationally at their positions by at least one of the services. This is kind of an arbitrary cutoff, and actually leaves off a decent amount who are top 10 at their position nationally, but here's what we've got. Services listed in order of highest ranking for each player:

He'd do better if he would get personally involved.
Maybe you could throw 2012 in there as well?

Yup, beat me to it, 2012 had some highly ranked players as well.
For those who have access, I am not looking for the details but cannot tell from the 2-non premium replies if this is actual news or the usual OHio bashing.
Any insight?
Just a trolling effort by someone on the board. In a few weeks subscriptions will become universal on 247 so that you can access any team site if you have VIP, but as of now the poster was just trying to mess with Bucknuts subscribers who check the board but wouldn't be able to see the content.
designed to conjure this very response.
Readers without subscriptions see the salacious headline and not the content of the posts; therefore they get nervous/excited/hungry.
The actual messages are comments like "Get more replies! Get this to the front page!"
It's stupid.
Someone did post the 247 Composite rankings yesterday, but the lean of this team towards the highest rated talent at various positions is definitely a great thing to see happening almost literally as we speak. According to the Composite listing alone, 33 current players / recruits would be in the top 10 at their position (including 2014 commits) and about half of the projected team in 2014, if the class holds, would be in the top 20 at their recruited position.
It is interesting to see the ratings variations across sites though. Even then, it really does speak to this team being built to be something to behold. Thanks for sharing this.
Though I might adjust the cutoff (arbitrary, as you mentioned) based on position. Most offenses have 2-3 WRs, 2 Gs and 2 OTs on the field at a given time, but only one C, RB, and QB, for example.
Might expand the cutoff for the former positions. In any event, it's a nice snapshot
The only thing anyone is concerned about today is that you extend your arbitrary cut off far back enough so that you have to put Wyatt Shalman in some slot.
WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW ..... I love this Board. Great fact finding!
Go Blue!
All this rehashing of how great our recruiting has been is getting old.
Wait.... no it's not
I was thinking there'd be a picture.
This is something to get extremely excited for. In 2015 when they all get to play together with a minimum of 1 year experience or a full year redshirted year under their belts (I'm just assuming everyone locks down a starting position, bear with me) that will give us 10 guys on offense (assuming 2 TE sets) in the top 5 of their position and 9 guys on defense in the top 5 of their position in their respected classes.
Oh my!
This is also assuming NONE of the mid-4 star/3 star guys out perform their rankings. Good things are ahead gentlemen!
With the 2008-2011 recruiting years?
Anyone have easy access to the information for those years, to compare or contrast?
(Edit: Damn, did not see the prior post on my screen when I typed this. Sorry.)
I wasn't pointing fingers at any coach. I am not interested in re-opening that conversation. I was interested in seeing, if we have the stats available, how the rankings compare to see if (1) we had a fair number of highly ranked guys who did not pan out for whatever reason, or (2) we came nowhere close to what we have been recruiting the last three years, at least in terms of how the recruiting services view it. Not every comment about 2008-2010 is a shot at Rrod. And not every highly ranked recruit will work out. And plenty of lower ranked recruits do or Wisconsin would not have had the success it has had for the last several years.
I was so happy to see this until I realized that a majority of these won't even see the field this year and probably even next year. However, 2015 should be a really good team. I can't wait to travel to SLC to watch that team decimate Utah.
Our defense is going to be Ravensesque
My fondest hope.
Not only are these recruits highly ranked, but the are spread out well across positions. Only the TE spot has more top recruits than positions on the field (if some O-line shuffling occurs). That is basically a full team of top recruits! Wow.
Just three guys short of having a full starting lineup with Top 5 guys:
Henry Poggi was ranked the number five Defensive Tackle by rivals.
