Recruiting: Shane Morris looks good

Submitted by TampaJake on

Still recovering from the 6, 7 on 7 games I did today at IMG/John Madden 7 on 7 tourny.  Michigan has a team there with Shane as QB.  Looks solid, nice arm, crisp passing even hurt some kids hands with his ball speed.  They clobbered two local teams (Venice and Southeast), I didn't see what else they did as I was doing other games.

Sunday is the big tourny for the "All Madden" trophy.  I was told this game would be live on ESPNU but I looked and don't see it on the schedule.

Also, I was chatting with a bunch of recruiting writers there...FoxSports, 247, scout, rivals and ESPN (they were all hangin in a big group trading war stories...I asked about Hoke and Co. "if the recruiting hype is real"..all said to a man, yes.

Also, that Michigan is poised to have a 5 year run on Ohio recruits, they are already hearing many rumblings in the Ohio area High Schools etc...

If you don't know about IMG...Awesome.  Also, Chris Wenkie is one giant dude...6'4" and probably a solid 260 (not fat).

If I see more from Shane or others I will let you know.

Nice, thanks for the info. Is this the same 7 on 7 event that Pharaoh Brown was at? I saw on Rivals that he did well at 7 on 7 event.

In less than 7 months, he has erased any and all concerns. So looking forward to seeing what this team will look like in 2-3 years. Big 10 is in trouble.

what being a good honest recruter will get you.  These high school kids and coaches want to know they will be taken care of well.  Plus, we all know tsio is gonna have some decreases in the amount of scholarships to offer, more for us thankyou!!!

Brady Hoke and Greg Mattison have sold me on their program now.

It took only six months and a bunch of 4 star recruits.

You win Brady, now stop pointing that I was wrong about you.

...is covering the event today via his Twitter feed. Morris, et al. looking good, apparently.

Michigan 2013 QB commit Shane Morris hits 2012 ATH Ruben Lile in stride for a 30yd score.
Detroit 2014 WR Damon Webb goes high in the air for a TD from Shane Morris. Followed by a 40yd TD on a streak from Morris to Webb.
In between Morris to Webb for 2TDs was a pick six by Top247 RB Dennis Norfleet who is playing both ways. Michigan is representing in Florida
Excuse me, that was Orchard Lake St. Mary's DB Kimani Elliott and not Dennis Norfleet with the pick 6 in Michigan's win over Tennessee.

"The class of 2013 Michigan commit from Warren (Mich.) De La Salle is a gunslinger that isn’t afraid to make any throw. At times, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Morris was erratic with the football, throwing into coverage, but when he was in rhythm, he was the best signal-caller on the day. The future Wolverine needs to become more consistent, but all the tools are there including the big arm the lefty was showing off on several throws"

I know we have a tendency to overrate our own recruits before actual rankings come out but Morris is receiving a ton of hype. I'm curious to see if he ends up a top 15 national recruit like we think or just a high 4-star.

It took two games but they did it.  Team Tampa beat them in the first championship game so it came down to one final game (double elim tourny).

Max Ex (Detroit) blew them out in the final.  I spoke to Shane for a few minutes..he was very nice, well mannered and I asked about the Michigan coaches.."they are simply awesome, I love those guys"...then he got called back to his team.

It was all "yes sir", "no sir" all day with him and us (the officials).  Very well mannered and had lots of fun with his team...the whole Detroit team was very positive and never really complained even when down...many other teams self-imploded.

So, impressive overall.  I did notice that when throwing accross his body he was very accurate, when throwing to his left..(he is a lefty), he often sailed the ball some..

Man am I tired..11 games in 95+ heat on back to back days...
