Recruiting: Mike Weber Update

Submitted by Paly33 on
As of now Mike Weber is high on Wisconsin, Michigan State, OSU, & Notre Dame. No mention of UM at all but did say that there still is a long way to go in his recruitment. Maybe an indication of why many RB offers have gone out recently. Here is the link to Scout if you have a membership:

Just Win baby and things will change!

I was made I offer, I would commit on the spot.  Coaches have been burned in the past and have apparently learned their lesson.  If future BlUE is out-state, let it be.  I'm not true blue when we are losing or winning but always.  Need more men like Morris.

Thing I must say is that even though i've been more negative against Hoke, it behooves all of us to want Hoke to succeed because OSU, PSU and MSU will pull no punches on the recruiting trail. Either the dirty tactics they use will be confirmed to these recruits or they'll be made a liar...It's our choice!

This post crystallizes why the board has become painful to read...here is a reader actually feeling the need to point out to people that in reality we should actually want Hoke to succeed. It just shows how the base sentiment on the board is for rooting against Hoke and hoping that there are 25,000 empty seats at every game this year.

read in a long time, and in the same thread as the first.

The "base sentiment" on this board is not rooting against Hoke, nor is it hoping for 25,000 empty seats.  Christ almighty, just stop with the hyperbole.

Once again, I am sorry that you don't like it when fans are negative.  But stop acting like it is the end of the world that people seem more negative lately.

It has been a tough last 5-10 years to be a Michigan fan.  There is bound to be some anxiety because of that fact.  Once Hoke gets things going back in the right direction, all will be fine.

Ok..yes - it was a little over the top. Im just disgusted by the glee expressed anytime anyone gets an email advertising season tickets.

To make it more useful and actually address the topic at hand...the news about Weber doesnt seem in line with anything written recently. He visited Michigan a couple times in February and March and afterwards again spoke highly of Nussmeier and his running game at Alabama. Until this post, it seems consensus was MSU with small lead over Michigan/Tennessee and then Wisc/OSU further behind. The Notre Dame thing is a bit funny because they are supposedly just back in it now because of a miscommunication where they stopped contacting Weber. I have heard them do it a couple of times with other recruits saying it got mixed up in the staff changes they have had. Clearly that is a bunch of garbage as you know how well they keep track of this stuff.

sure would be nice if we could get him back in the fold, maybe Weber is still irritated that he was secondary on our list while Harris was committed and now is not considering us as seriously.

I sure hope Hoke gets it going this year, I'm tired of the negativity.

He did give quotes to the effect that he was rekindling interest after the Nuss hire. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to root for the 5 & 4 star running backs that are, you know, on the team. Let's kick ass in '14!!! And let '15 figure itself out!! Go Blue!

Wake me up when the season starts. The only way to turn the tide back recruiting wise is for Hoke and co. to win on the field.  Get er done!

We have loads of talent at RB, even if we need depth.  Our RB will be great once our o-line is of drinking age.  I hope that these elite recruits join UM, but it is a reciprocal loss if they don't.  Especially if they are listening to Urbz (sketchy) or Franklin (sketchier).  I sincerely believe that Michigan is on the path back to its true form.  This year might be rough, but we will turn the corner in 2015, at the latest.

Pretty much this.  Hopefully one of the current backs really becomes the go-to guy, racks up 1,000 yards and puts all of the running game hand-wringing to bed.  There is talent there, and once they (OL and RB) become more experienced (under an OC with a consistent scheme), the results will come.  Then we can stop worrying about every tweet and raised eyebrow from a recruit and focus on grinding opponents into dust.

The opposite reason is why some thought Scott's possible commitment to MSU might push Weber to Michigan. MSU took 2 running backs in 2014 class and Michigan took none. If Scott committed, he would already be looking at 3 RB's within one year where at Michigan he would have a full two years between him and competition (before Michigan gets another recruit as Michigan looking for 2 rb's this year).

A great year will solve all our perceived (because I still think we're recruiting quite well) recruiting problems, and the Hoke question, and the stadium being full and everything else.  A bad year... well it's all going to be more difficult.  But we already knew this.

As the T-850 said, "Anger is more useful than despair."  Not as concerned about the board, but I hope the players get angry.

It should be ok, either way. I look at the RB position as a consumable. If you don't reel in the big time name, it should be ok. It can help to have an all world guy but you can easily get great production out of a lesser heralded recruit. Also, the RB in the NFL is all but gone anyway.

Of course teams are negatively recruiting us right now, it's what happens when you struggle a little bit.

Listen, we're always going to get our share of great recruits, period.  If Weber isn't one of them then we'll get somone else.

Weber and his family have a very long and close relationship to Blackwell, from what I've read his dad and Blackwell are best friends and Blackwell is like a member of his family.  Shawn Merriman said in his chat today that he would be shocked if Weber didn't commit to Michigan State and that State is taking at least 2 RBs.

Why get our hopes up for a kid that is likely going elsewhere?
