Recruiting Home Stretch

Submitted by big10football on

So, if RR keeps his job, right now we have 13 commits and Kinard would make 14.

We have about 20 to give. leaving about 7 spots remaining.

We probably lead for:  Frost, Zettel, Rawls, Taylor, and Bryant.

If we land these guys, which is very possible, that would leave us with only 1 or 2 spots.

We ar still strongly in it for: Flowers, Lyons, Tabb, Holloway, Kitchen

And still  have a shot at Cooper, Royster, Barnes, Lucien, and Showers.

Is that about right?

The million dollar question is why we keep discussing the exact same thing in a million threads when everyone knows exactly the same thing. Wait for someone informed to update us instead of speculating with the same information everyone else has.

Its out of our control. Chill. Hibernate. Just stop hypothesizing about this crap.

If you see a post title that has 'recruiting' in it, and you would rather not read or comment on speculation about recruiting, then simply keep perusing the board for topics that spark your interest...or is the complaint that not all 15 topics on the first page are interesting to you?

By the way, maybe I've missed them, but I cannot recall a serious reply by  yourself or JHackney to any post (just smart-ass thread-derailing comments and cute pictures of cats)..seems as if nothing interests you two.

1. This board post has 57 replies at this time.

2. Of those 35 (61%) are complaints or discussion or snarky remarks (trying to be witty but mostly being unoriginal) about if this board topic (recruiting topic after the end of the season and before the bowl game) should have been written

3. 7 (12%) of these are from Profit, who first commented around 3 and came back to the topic he had already talked about more than 7 hours later

4. TomVH does a lot to inform of us of what is going on during recruiting

5. This was a board post, not a diary,  that provided some info (not new) and asked the board what they thought about the possibilities

6. Telling people to wait and see is just ignorant.  We disect everything about sports, from recruiting/draft to record predictions, to score predictions, to who will start/ play.

7. Brian recently added a feature to MGoBlog to inform fellow posters if you approve of their post via a down vote or up vote, without the necessity of leaving a comment.  The use of this feature could help in limiting the length of Board posts, allowing great discussion and reducing the chance that valuable replies get lost, and resulting in another post

8. The Mods do a great job of ridding the board of obvious repeat posts, as can be seen in the Mod Sticky thread.  To complain as much as some of you do about how appropriate a board post is, and then see the board stay up, is, to me, a complaint to the Mods.  If you believe that you know what is appropriate new content, and what isn't, according with this blog's owner, then I suggest you contact Brian, to make him aware of how people have hijacked his board, and how if you were a moderator, would remedy this situation.

1. +1 for the time put in to your post.

2. Kudos to you for the stats you put in.

3. Profit is a hard worker for justice, that is why you see his posts many times.

4. The mods do a wicked good job on this site.

5. Maybe you shouldn't take everything so serious. All we can do is sit and wait. That's reality. Like it or not, overanalyzing won't do a thing. When you start dissecting reports that DB didn't look RR in the eye as he was passing him as a sign of impending doom, you need to take a few steps back from Obsessionland.

6. I have used this vote idea you have spoke of many times. Yet emotional rabble rabble still comes from many.

7. I always had the idea to take care of my own problems. I am sure Brian has better things to do than listen to anyone bitching. I think your empathy for Brian and the mods are misplaced. I have never once complained about the mods not doing their "jobs". Look through my history if you don't believe.

8. Calm down. If you let letters on a screen bother you that much, you will lead a long ungratifying life. Remember, we all root for the same team. I am not your enemy. This is a message board where people are free to post and respond how they like as long as it isn't offensive.

9. What is your prediction for the Gator Bowl? Does the defense show up better with extra practices and time off or will it be a repeat of PSU when we had time off?

I would remind the impatient among us (myself included) of the logical nuances of Dave Brandon's statement that he will evaluate RR after the bowl game.

That means after the bowl game.  Many seem to assume that Brandon will announce his decision in the day(s) immediately following the bowl game.  Surely, these estimates are based on sound logic and an understanding of the timing and realities of college football recruiting.

However, Brandon has not provided a deadline for himself.  No one knows when he could make his decision.  It could take much longer than we expect and piss a lot of people off.  If that were the case, I'm sure there would be many more informative posts on the board regarding coaching changes.

I'm sorry. I say that in advance. I don't mean to sound callous, and I don't mean to sound condescending. I know both will happen, which is why I am apologizing in advance.

I also know standard responses will be: "don't click on the link", "don't respond, then". I get that, too.

Normally I am in the "let people post what they want" crowd.

BUT PLEASE! I know it is bowl season and there is a drought of good topics, but please, can we stop all these useless threads about ifs, ands, buts, and over-analyzing. It takes away from what a quality site this is.

As I have said before, I have only been a member since September, but I have been a follower of this site for years. This site is great, and a great place to talk Michigan sports. But some threads really water it down.

I don't know why I overanalyzed in this thread. I also don't know how your comment about not liking a new thread could be considered "snobby" or "condescending." How does not liking a thread put you on a high horse? I don't get where you're going with that.

don't like it when people criticize what other people post so I am having an internal struggle. And I mean absolutely no offense to you, but it just seems during this time since the season has ended, every day the same topics get posted and same comments made. It just gets old, but maybe there are no real alternatives, so I just need to deal....

However, please keep in mind some people come on more frequent than others.  Some folks do not have an hour to sit and read the other posts.  In turn, they post what is on their mind at that time.  To fellow maize and blue; they shouldn't have to get beat down for it.  Just saying...

i totally understand that point of view... but if you want to post whats on your mind, look at the mgoboard, see if anything is related, and go from there.

For example, the thoughts from this thread could have went in the Justice Hayes thread, or the Tom VH post.

I'm always taking sides.  Why can't I straddle the fence (literally, not figuratively (that would hurt))?  It seems like something I should try at least once, no?  Judging from the responses, the answer is no . . .

Nothing shows exactly how much you're obsessed with me until you try to insult me in the middle of a thread on which I've never even commented.

And in the meantime, you've completely distorted the message I attempted to convey to you in previous threads, which is not a difficult message to understand.

Ok, since you don't want to talk about this year's recruiting class during - you know - recruiting season - can you please suggest some Michigan football related topics that would be ripe for discussion now?  I am just curious because with our last game more than 3 weeks ago and our next game almost 2 weeks away, I can't think of a better, more relevant topic to discuss.

Suggestions?

I understand your frustration and I don't necessarily disagree.  That said, I think some people object and/or get frustrated with new threads being created that simply re-hash things that have already been discussed, often times that same day.  And the threads are titled such that people think there might be new information to be gained from them, thereby peaking the interest and creating unmet expectations.  Thus, the initial reaction is negative.  So, though the topic is interesting, sometimes its best to simply discuss it in the previous thread, even at the risk of what someone presumes to be a good point gets lost in the shuffle.

This is especially true when the topic is recruiting, a very serious, important, and attention-getting topic.  People wait for any tidbit of news to come from the likes of TomVH and Tim and, I think, get perturbed when a topic about recruiting is simply one person's opinion,  that lacks any new tangible information, and has been covered very recently.

(Perfect example of how it should be done - see AnthonyThomas's post below.  He presents some new information and a link on Frost that I, for one, have never seen before.  This is outstanding.  Maybe even worthy of a separate thread.  But he puts it in the body of this thread because he decided it was not thread-worthy material.)

The solution: Neg the thread. That is why negging exists.

The constant policing of new thread topics by posting a short story on why you don't like the thread topic only makes it worse. This thread could be 10 or so posts long and would have disappeared. The fact that everyone wants to voice their displeasure by adding to the thread what they don't like about the thread is the reason it is 50 posts long.

Anyone who holds teh feelings you have expressed should neg the thread and move on.

Unless you have a funny, smart-ass comment. Those you should add. Everything else is lame, pointless, and accomplishes nothing.
