Record Watch: NCAA Career QB Rushing record

After yesterday's 235 yard rushing performance, Denard's path to breaking Pat White's QB rushing record has become a bit clearer. To break the record in the seven guaranteed games we have left, #16 must average 82.14 yards per game on the ground.

Pat White- 4,480 yards

Denard Robinson- 3,905 yards

EDIT: If we get to a bowl game, the average drops to: 72 yards/game. If we make it to the Big Ten championship game (and a bowl), it drops to 64 yards/game.

The schedule will allow this to happen. We don't actually need to play Purdue again.

Should do well vs Illinois, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

NW and ohio will be a little tougher to run against.

As of right now, he has 90 rushing attempts for 676 total yards, which is good for an average of about 135 yards per game. If he continues at this rate (575 yards to  go to tie, of course), the estimated gain of rushing yard 4,481 would come about 4.26 games from now, which would be a little bit into the Northwestern game, I think.

Braxton is on pace for 1,526 yards this year. He probably finishes in the 1300's somewhere(I haven't looked at their schedule), which would leave him in the neighborhood of 2000-2100, which is about where Denard was after two seasons. And he'll probably be running more in his last two than Denard has, since he won't have the coaching change that Denard did. If Braxton stays healthy, he'll have a very good shot at Denard's records.

I'm skeptical that OSU will ever really have to rely on Braxton to run as much as Denard does. I think Braxton has been running so much in his career thus far out of necessity because he still can't pass that well and I don't think their RB-rushing attack has been great. I think he'll run for less and less in his last 2 seasons

Pretty surprised to see that in RR's sixth game at Arizona, RR's QB just set the single game PAC 12 record for attempts (69) and completions (45), completing 65% of his passes for 491 passing yards against Stanford.  Arizone put up 48 points as a team against a Stanford team that held Barkley et al. to 14 points and 254 yards through the air.  Like you said, he has his faults, but some of the stuff he does with offense is pretty special.

Aside from the obvious win-loss record, the two things that I lament about the RR debacle are that Mallet didn't stay, and as a result, Denard didn't redshirt.  Maybe RR learned his lesson after getting fired by Michigan and went into Arizona determined to adapt his system to his QB's strengths.  But, I have to imagine that had Mallet decided to stay, we would have seen a offense very similar to the one he's employing at Arizona currently.  He still would have recruited Denard, Mallet would have been a senior in 2009, and Denard could have redshirted giving him another year.  I know that everything might not have worked out as it as -- RR might not have been fired, and Hoke might not have been hired -- but either way, it would be nice to have Denard for one more year.

We could have redshirted Denard as it was.  It wasn't absolutely necessary to play him in 2009.  Tate Forcier was the starter and Nick Sheridan was also around.  I think the problem was that Rodriguez was feeling pressure to win after going 3-9 and thought using Denard as a situational backup might be what we needed to eek out a bowl bid.

Regardless, we're getting three years out of Denard as a starting QB, which is pretty good.  I'm more upset about the fact that Gardner might be a senior next year.

We were unlikely to ever be a winning team with that formula. Peter Principle: people rise to the level of their own incompetence. I thought we were going to get it next week, but I'm not sure what the exact # is. Wikipedia still has us at 895. Still, it would just feel very right to get that 900th win against MSU.

It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk

should run Denard all over the darned field next week to help insure both that he gets Pat White's record and that they can concentrate more on game-planning from here on out?

If I am Hoke and Borges I am at least having a conversation to strategize this, no? Or do you think games, wins, nothing else? Interesting to watch managers, coaches handle these things after the Cabrera deal last week.
