A dedication ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the field. Vice President for Student Affairs E. Royster Harper will speak at the event, as will Michigan Marching Band Drum Major Jeff McMahon and Club Sports Council President Jessica Craft.
After the short ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests will be invited onto the newly resurfaced field and will be able to participate in several games and activities with members of various club sports teams and the Michigan Marching Band.
"We want to encourage the campus community to join us in our celebration," Canning says.

I saw the field for the first time last week, and my knees were beside themselves with jealousy at the sight of the new turf (I'm a former band member). It's going to save people so many injuries.
I could have done without the huge iron fence around the field though. Tailgating wasn't as easy because of it, and the poor pregame reserves block in rehearsal didn't have room for themselves and got crushed against it, à la Animal House.

Will there be free thank-you physical therapy sessions for former MMB members?

I heard rumors of them giving out free tubes of Icy Hot and knee replacement bobblehead figures, actually.

That will be Michigan's lacrosse stadium someday. It says so on their website.

While I am bummed for the roller hockey players, I'm very excited about this... The fact that Elbel field is going to see way more action than it used to as a sports field is wonderful news.

When lacrosse was still club the plan was to build a lacrosse building next to Elbel and tranform Elbel into a multi-use field for lacrosse, rugby, IM's, etc. That's not the plan now that lacrosse is varsity. I think what you are seeing is on the old lacrosse club team website, not on their new mgoblue.com page.
Last I heard they will be building two (count 'em, two) lacrosse stadiums out near the soccer stadium. One outdoor and one indoor. Plus all their support stuff (Player Development Center). I can't wait to see what an indoor lacrosse stadium is going to look like.
