Reading Tennesse Basketball Message Board
I was reading this Tennesse Basketball blog: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-basketball/
Alot of them believe we run a 1-3-1 still, this quote is pretty funny....
"We will be dominated by the 1-3-1 because we are one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the country, we're terribly impatient, and we are a dumb basketball team. The 1-3-1 is one of the worst things that could happen to this team.
I will admit my error if we win. "
Another thread analyzes our players, they say Morris has a bad assist:turnover ratio, only looking at the stats vs Osu in the btt. They also seemed pretty excited that the 6 foot 4 inch Novak would guard their powerforward, but unfortunately they don't know the grit factor.
We're probably making the same inaccurate statements about their team, but I just find it funny.
although we are a man-to-man defense, i wouldnt be surprised to see the 131 brought in this game, if only for a little bit.
It worked against Kansas
Which is exactly what it did to Kansas. Though, it had worked against Kansas the year prior.
Michigan in the Final Four Im calling it. My brackets r too.
Final Four? Who do you have them losing to?
I have them beating Kansas in one, Pitt in another, and Purdue in my office pool.
Yee of little faith.......
I've heard a few of the talking heads mention us and the 1 3 1 defense as well.
Guess someone should tell them we don't actually use it that often.....
To be totally fair, I don't know if many national talking heads had much of a reason to keep tabs on Michigan throughout this year. Still probably should have done one iota of research on us.
Watching SportsCenter - Hubert Davis just picked Tennessee as a team that can make a run in the tourney. NSFMF, I say.
Vitale is picking Tennessee as well. He goes on by saying they will give Duke a run for their money due to the their athleticism. His opinion of course but I really think Dickie V needs to go the way of Corso. There comes a time when you just need to go.
I think Dickie V has some life left in him. I actually still enjoy seeing him on broadcasts if only for his crazy style and antics. The only thing Corso is good for now is the headgear picks, and I'm guessing that's why ESPN keeps him around.
What I want to know is how Peyton knew the Colts were going to draft him.
but what I want to know is how I couldn't find a picture of sad Peyton after one of his four losses to Florida. This was the best sad Peyton.
In an ideal world, I wouldn't mind seeing some 1-3-1 against Tennessee...
...but you have to go with what you know. There's not a whole lot of sense in changing your system if you've been playing well doing something different.
But they've run it during periods of almost every game I've seen... it may not be the primary defense run, but I wouldn't be shocked if i saw it for part of the game.
Right...but there's probably a reason that Beilein hasn't run the 1-3-1 more often. I'm assuming it's because these kids don't do it very well, maybe because they're mostly young and inexperienced.
I hear you, yeah we haven't done it as much this year, but overall the defense is pretty solid, i'd love to hear some quotes as to why Belein's switched it up.
Earlier in the year he said it was because they didn't play it very well.
you have a lot of length on the perimeter to prevent the long cross-court and skip passes and are able to close out on shooters better. The 1-3-1 is very easy to attack when you can go over the top of it.
UMHoops knows what they're talking about. I love MGo for almost everything else but UMHoops is rock-solid at basketball. Whatever they pontificate WRT Tennessee is probably correct.
Using my hometown team as a metric we see that...
Oakland went on a 10 day stretch in December where they
lost to Illinois by 9,
lost to MSU by 1,
beat Tennessee by 7,
and lost to UM by 18.
I think that Michigan can win by 5.
Then we get a shot at our Fab Five era rivals Duke!
Go Blue!
Ah, gotta love the transitive property of Michigan athletics
Clearly you meant we can beat them by 25
They feel that if they can exploit our high turnover rate they should be a lock for a win and a shot at Duke.
If only we'd learned to hold onto the ball we probably would've beaten Michigan St.
For what it's worth, I don't blame Vols fans. I was working on a big analysis of D-MO and Hardaway vs. Harris and what's his face (their other star) last night and Chrome ate it, so I said "screw it" and just went by what ESPN told me, too.
Too bad we have the 14th best turnover ratio in the nation.
Ha from an outsiders perspective if I saw novak and knew one of my best larger men would be faced up with him I would be ecstatic aswell.
To bad these people don't know novak and know that he's pure grit and will hang with the biggest and best of them....
and I swear to god this was a result:
Even Google knows that playing against Novak is going to be a 12 round fight.
How many of you besides me created a crazy bracket that has us winning the national championship? Michigan, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and BYU in the final four. Book it.
Little does Tennessee know that Beilein's favorite offense is actually the 4 corners. Oh wait, I just gave that away...
I thought for a second it read, "violation.com." Kind of seems appropriate.
addressing the fact that Bruce Pearl will be facing John Beilein, the head of the NCAA ethics committee... Which I thought was hilarious, gotta love conspiracy theories
......to know that the Vols have done their research. All the more reason to shock them with a win on Friday afternoon.
Matchups with teams you know nothing about.
What Tennesee knows about us they probably got from watching last night's Fab Five documentary.
Be extra careful of that lob pass to our Center. We use that a lot. We love to run up and down the court. We don't shoot a lot of 3's, so there's no need to guard the perimeter.
You're welcome.
bitches don't know 'bout my true grit
Woodworking! Tiling! Stone Polish, and more! Try Zack Novak today!
i personally like the fact that they talk about how many open 3s they give up a game, completely oblivious to the fact that we have shot the 3 ball well this year, and are calling for a 10+ point victory.
also liked this tidbit on SDSU: San diego state a no. 2 seed in the west? Coach K must have smiled when he saw that. Can say that I've seen them, but my bet is that they are one of the weaker 2 seeds in a number of years.
they obviously don't watch any other bball teams lol
is a legit #2 seed. They are versatile and can play with anybody in the country IMO. They have a NBA caliber player in Kwalhi Leonard. Their frontcourt are long and athletic. You obviously haven't seen SDSU play at all.
Florida as the #2 seed is a disgrace. The fact that MSU has a favorable draw with the weakest #2 seed in the field and a beaten BYU(post-Davies) on their side. Easy road to Elite 8 for MSU.
whole heartedly agree that Florida is overranked and I personally have SDSU in the Final Four for my serious bracket. Just the incompetence that some people spew while knowing nothing is quite funny
and edit: i was taking the SDSU thing as a quote from their message board, thats not me personally saying it sorry for not putting it in quotes

We shot 35.1%, 136th in the Country in Division I.
well....maybe well wasn't the word i was looking for but definitely far better than last year
I learned on that site that we run one of the best 1-3-1 zones in the country.
Maybe we would have won some more games if we used it?
News to me... I thought we still ran a 3-3-5
Michigan is going to make the field of eight, be on in primetime nationwide, and Greg Gumble is going to come on with his totally ridiculous hair and talk all about Michigan's 1-3-1 all pre-game and post-game, while Michigan spends the entire game in Man. Then you're going to end up with and entire nation of basketball "fans" who actually think that a Man defense is 1-3-1.

Tennessee has athleticism, a lot of it and they're good. Only problem is that definitely don't play like it (pretty much the opposite of Michigan).
Have Michigan to win, we'll keep the game close in my opinion because we always seem to do. I think we've got one of the best Xs and Os coaches out there. See this like the Clemson game two years ago.
I'm quite sure you meant "the Clemson game from earlier this year" because several ESPN talking heads have assured me that Michigan is returning to the tourney after an extended drought.
