Ray Vinopal Still at Free Safety Carvin now back up FS
Ray is staying at FS while Carvin Johnson is now his backup. Here is this weeks depth chart.

does it really matter who is back there?

it seemed like Vinopal was in the right place at the right time. He mirrors most of the secondary in that he needs physical development to make the play when he gets there, but I think he had a low number of mental FAILs out there. As long as he wraps up instead of blindly launching with arms in tight to deliver a "knockout blow" at impact, he'll be way ahead of the competition.

I don't know about that...there were several Royster gashes in the first half where Vinopal was nowhere near where he needed to be to prevent huge cutback runs. Either his grit is slowing him waaaay down compared to a "standard" safety or he just wasn't where he was supposed to be.

He was in the right place all the time. He was getting passed flat-footed on a lot of the big plays.

Did Big Will really already pass Elliot Mealer at RG?

He is Will, god of Thunder

and hard to believe.

it may be that mealer never really recovered from the accident. if there's one guy i'm willing to cut an enormous amount of slack to, it's him.

Couldn't agree more, I'm just surprised they're putting Big Will in the two deep so soon

They're not, really. Ricky Barnum is undoubtedly the back-up at both Guard positions. And if both Schilling and Omameh were to get hurt, I would guess that Khoury would fill in at one of the guard spots.

Is pretty nominal in its nature. I would imagine that the only time we see both backup guards is if we're winning by a boatload, which would probably have Khoury at Center. Speculating about that many injuries is just asking to be jinxed.

Is he no longer playing WLB or is the SS vs. WLB difference really a matter of semantics. Also a matter of semantics -- excuses for our defense.
November 1st, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
was for the dime package only.

Ray had a few whiffs but I never thought to myself he was way out of position. Will wait for Brain's UFR (God, if he does one, poor man sounds deflated) to make any judgement.
November 1st, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
because Royster had about ten yards of space before Vinopal because the DL and LB were nowhere to be found. One on one between Royster and Vinopal is not going to end well, I'm afraid

Doing a UFR of PSU would be like stabbing yourself in the eye repeatedly. I feel bad for Brian.

Anyone else notice (and throw up in their mouth a little) the or between Demens and Ezeh?
November 1st, 2010 at 2:00 PM ^
I think you are reading into the too much.

Demens has been "ORed" the past two games with Obi. It hasn't meant anything.
