Ray Ball to Wisconsin

Per Scout.com.

He was still mentioned in a recent recruiting update here so I figured it was noteworthy.Although it seems we're more focused on guards lately. Specifically Zettel and Bryant.

Zettel would be a very talented OG, but his athleticism on both sides of the ball is off the charts. He's a rare prospect that is legitimately a top 100 prospect at both positions. We're developing enough depth at OG that they can afford to let him play DE.

I think a talent like Zettel should be used at a position where he can make the most impact. OG is an important position - but not a game changing one. A great DE on the other hand can destroy offenses single-handedly and get recognized for it as well (case in point - #55).

If Zettel and the coaches think that he can do equally well in both OG and DE position - I hope they will take a shot at DE first. It would also be great from a depth point of view - although OG is not too stacked either, but need is greater at DE.

As far as Ray Ball is concerned, its not a great loss - good recruit but replaceable.

uh, have you seen the blocks Omameh has put on some LBs?  Some have been the difference between a 5 yard run for Denard, and taking it to the house.  Not saying having a devastating DE isn't a big advantage, but our interior OL is a major reason the team started 5-0.

Everything I have read says they are recruiting him to play whatever position he wants to play. If he gets here (please) and tries out DE and it is not working they will move him to guard. If he stays at DE he may be a more explosive version of Van Bergen although Van Bergen is the man either way.

Zettel could be a linebacker too IMO. (Not that it is an option that has been discussed for college.) His versatility and quickness sideline to sideline is impressive in person.  He had 15 tackles in less than 3 quarters against a quality opponent when I saw him.  He launched a perfect 35 yard pass out of the wildcat too. Right after he long snapped for the punt team and barrelled down the field through and around 6 guys to crush the punt returner.

The kid is a football player in the All Madden Team use of the word.

Whereever he wants and fits best is right on.
