Rashan Gary is the consensus #1 prospect in football.

Submitted by d_ronii on
Just wanted to share this with the blog that after Rivals recent update to the rankings, Rashan Gary is now the #1 consensus football prospect for 2015. Players who can claim this distinction are Robert Nkemdiche and Jadeveon Clowney. That is some good company. Link is below and I will keep my fingers crossed until February. Whenever he pleases. When you are number one, I think virtually any program will make room for you at any time. I'll say, I'm not a huge fan of the recruiting process and all that goes on, but it is a big decision, and I can't fault Rashan and his mom for playing this out to the very end (and beyond)!

I think you have a fair point. "Consensus" is not always used with the same meaning as "unanimous", which is probably the better word to make the point here. People have already generally said Gary is the consensus #1 player and now that is unanimous among the major rating servies.

But please don't keep your fingers crossed until February, OP.  Think of the carpal tunnel syndrome implications!

Gary would be a great addition to the team, and has to like the D-Line's success in the first part of the season, before the Glasgow injury.

If he plays his cards right, he has a good chance to be a defensive captain at Michigan by his third or fourth year. That's an incredible opportunity to have in front of you.

If our coaches want him...I want him.
If our coaches want him AND everyone else's coach want him too...then that's even better.

Recent articles indicated that his mom wasn't too keen on Muschamp's departure from Auburn.  And also sounds like she talked to Harbaugh about Durkin leaving and that didn't seem to change anything regarding their positive feelings about UM.

I think he's a little overrated. In that, I don't think he's a Clowney type, concensus no. 1 player. When I watched Jabrill Peppers film I couldn't find any negatives. With Gary, he obviously has the great burst and explosiveness. But I see him as only having good power, I don't see him stacking and shedding blockers. He beats everyone with quickness, which he can do. But when I watched his full game on TV if he didn't get off blocks instantly, he would stay blocked. And my biggest negative is how he'll hold up vs double teams in college. If he doesn't split it(incredibly hard to do...) he'll have a hard time holding his ground. This is obviously something he'll improve on as he gets stronger and bigger but I don't see him making a huge impact as a freshamn. I might actually look to play him at WDE his freshamn year and see if they can't utilize his athleticism in one on one matchups. Anyway, neg away.

But in his highlights he's only beating people with speed. If you watch say Keyshon Camp's highlights there are some plays he wins with speed but others he'll get hands on blocker, shed him and make the play. Or he'll get underneath his defender and drive him into the backfield and thn disengage and make the play. I mean obviously Gary has the athleticism but I just don't think he's concensus no. 1 player. Recruiting services sometimes buy into group think.

The fact that he is the consensus #1 player is indicative that he is the consensus #1 player, I don't really think that's disputable at this point. In order to say he's not, you'd have to name a player that is at least arguably better than him. Good luck finding that player.

bosas a great player and hes got the genes but hes not his bro.  he should have a very successful career but joey bosa is prob the best DL since watt.  hes pretty much unblockable at this level when he decides to get after it.  his little bro isnt there yet.

gary is pretty darn good.  i think his versatility influences his rankings and potential more than anything else - he can legit line up anywhere on the line and make plays, something not many dudes can do

But he is no Clowney.  I think he'll be great, but Clowney was a once a decade athlete in college...like a Lawrence Taylor type.

On film he is great, but the two games I have seen him in I did not feel he was the best player on their defense...he seems to tire out quickly.  The LB on his team seemed like the best player on that team.
