Rashad Knight Update
I spoke with Rashad Knight tonight, and he's down to Michigan, Ole Miss, and Rutgers.
He will be taking an official visit to Michigan on the 15th, which is this Friday. There will be a good amount of Michigan commits there, so hopefully that will help.
I really got the feeling that Michigan has some ground to make up, and that Rutgers might be leading. I think he's still pretty open, but it was just a feeling I got from the conversation.
He expressed his concern about Rich Rod's job security. He told me that will be one of his main questions going into the visit, whether or not Rich Rodriguez will be the coach after next year.

and Byron Leftwich...
January 11th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
IDK Byron Leftwich I'd rather associate myself with David Grohl and Jason Bateman on that list

Thanks for the update Tom...Even with all the DB's we have in this class I really like Knight's film, the kid can hit like a ton of bricks. Here's hoping for a good visit this weekend...
January 10th, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
Despite what I said, I still think we have a good shot, if this visit goes well.
January 11th, 2010 at 10:06 AM ^
then I imagine the visit will go pretty well.

Skyline Chili = Mother's Milk
January 10th, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
Thanks man, I was a little hesitant to add the photo since they are out of Ohio but I figure Cincinnati doesn't really count, plus the stuff is flippin amazing. I live in West Michigan and they sell the canned chili in the stores now, making homemade three way all the time...
January 10th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
is better.
January 10th, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
you'll be negbanged into oblivion.
January 10th, 2010 at 11:17 PM ^
cheers to the Skyline, i'm on the 5 way homemade,
canned Skyline delivered. Mich fan born in Ohio...

Shout out to Tony's as well.
Not a mass chili producer, but a good Toledo institution.

Oh yes they are. You can find Packo's chili in stores in California if you look.
For those of you unfamiliar, your job is as follows:
Go to Toledo, OH, with intent to see one of the following: One Toledo Mudhens game, One U of Toledo Rockets Football or Basketball game, OR a trip through the Toledo Zoo or the Toledo Museum of Art.
While in Toledo, visit one of the following:
Original Packo's East of the River
Packo's at the Park by 5/3rd field
Packo's Cafe off US 23
Order the following:
1/2 Order Fried Pickles and Peppers for an appetizer (for one, full order for 2)
#2 combo (or the double dog for MOAD combo if you're hungrier), with dumplings and gravy.
While there, read the signed buns.
January 11th, 2010 at 8:29 PM ^
they are all owned by ANY real Detroit Coney!
BOOK IT!

My buddy is from Cincy and he absolutely loves Skyline. Everytime his friends come up from Cincy he makes them bring Skyline haha.

Of the group of corners still uncommitted and being recruited (Knight, Grimes and others) any idea on the order which the staff would rank them?
January 10th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
Grimes is #1 because he's the only corner we've offered who's uncommitted.
Knight is a safety.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:17 PM ^
Is he being recruited as a safety? He is listed as both on the intertubes.
January 10th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
tell you what, this kid looks like a hell of a SS on film. His closing speed from the defensive backfield to the box or line of scrimmage is sick. Have not really seen him in coverage though.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
What a sweet name, Knight, I would love to see him robing WR's all day!

Edit: "Robbing" Sorry about that everyone
January 10th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
Hm...I wonder what party they'll be at friday night
January 10th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
David Brandon, can you please give this kid a call and reassure him that Rodriguez will have a long and successful future here. Thanks in advance!
January 10th, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
Dave Brandon got the banhammer...
Oh...you meant THE Dave Brandon. Never mind.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
+1
Yeah...I guess I just figured the "other" David Brandon had already made about 6 new accounts and that it was old news. My mistake.
January 11th, 2010 at 10:10 AM ^
that was a quick banhammer on davebrandon.
I missed the lead-up on him.
Seemed rather mcfarlinesque from what I saw
January 10th, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
Sorry Tom, I'm not entirely clear - does "concern about Rich Rodriguez and his job security" mean concerns about both RichRod, as well as his job security? Or just RichRod's job security?
January 10th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
Sorry, I should have worded that differently. He's just concerned with Rich Rod's job security.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
When you say that you "should have worded that differently", do you mean you should have used a synonym for the word "that" or does "that" refer to your original statement?
January 10th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
You have addressed one of the many questions I had from that completely vague post Tom made.
Now, I have my OWN question: Tom, when you say Rich Rodriguez's "job secruity"--I didn't know Rich Rodriguez was working in security.
My question is: Security as in financial stuff? Or security as in Rodriguez is one of those meanies who puts the boot on a cute coed's car after she racks up thousands of dollars in unpaid parking tickets?
January 10th, 2010 at 11:20 PM ^
the bouncer at the bar last night did look a bit like Rodriguez. I didn't see Pryor inside trying to rob and murder, so he must have been doing a good job as security.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
If I had the choice I would take Parker over the other two but need all three! Depth is what we need most.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
Perhaps RichRod should just put together a DVD of Tommy Amaker's years of success at Michigan and get an intro completed by David Brandon and Mary Sue Coleman welcoming new recruits to Michigan.
Rashad Knight watches that thing and he would be asking RichRod about graduate assistant potentials.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
Make sure you also ask Greg Schiano what he'll do when JoePa retires, which could be any time, and Penn State comes calling for him to be their next head coach...........
January 10th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
Everybody has been retiring Joe Paterno for 20 years now.
I'm actually thinking Schiano has his eyes on how Randy Shannon will do over the next year or so.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
Somebody please get Rashad laid. If we closed with Baxter, Knight, and Parker (along with a couple of other SNAKE OIL surprises like Michael Taylor), I would be pretty confident this would be a huge year. I may be delusional, but I think this could be one of the bigger impact classes Michigan has had in a decade as the nucleus should be a bit more settled and could be complemented by new talent at key skill positions (WR, LB, CB/S).
January 10th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
has superior tradition, a higher profile, better academics, and equal or better coaching to both Rutgers and Ole Miss. If the kid just wants to go where he can get laid, what's our advantage?
January 11th, 2010 at 1:18 AM ^
nice Glengarry Glenross reference.
"You can't close the leads you're given, you can't close shit, you are shit! Hit the bricks pal and beat it cause you are going out!"
(Said to Hopson before his departure re: recruiting?)
January 10th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
... isn't Grimes rumored to be considering Ol' Miss now too? If so, I wonder how much those coaches down there are doing the "RichRod is gone after next year" negative recruiting.
January 10th, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
I have a feeling the "factioning" is hurting recruiting, but I hope the kid jumps on board for what will hopefully be a great year.
January 10th, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
I hope you read this. Please consider the following before deciding which university to attend. As you may already know Michigan Stadium seats over 100,000 fans for every home game and has the record for the largest crowd to ever see a college football game when over 112,000 fans packed the Big House for a recent game against Ohio State. This past year over 50,000 fans attended the spring intrasquad game - that is more than Rutgers stadium holds for even their most important games. The stadium at Ole Miss holds only slights more than 60,000. Ask yourself how many times you have seen Rutgers or Ole Miss play a really important game in front of a national TV audience. When was the last time Rutgers or Ole Miss played in the Rose Bowl? Played for a National Championship? Were ranked #1 during the season? How many players from Rutgers or Ole Miss have won the Heisman and then cared so much for their old school that they donated millions back to it as Charles Woodson did for Michigan.
You will learn about this stuff and more when you come to Ann Arbor next weekend. Enjoy yourself, soak it all in, walk around campus (make sure you see the Law Quad, you won't believe how beautiful it is especially with a blank of snow). Make sure you ask about academics - according to a national magazine Michigan is the fourth best public university in the country. Rutgers isn't in the top 25 and Ole Miss....not even in the top 50. I trust after your visit your decision will be easy to make.
So Go Blue and Hail to the Victors!
January 11th, 2010 at 12:43 AM ^
Can he play corner? or strictly safety?
January 11th, 2010 at 9:03 AM ^
He is being recruited by Michigan to play safety. I don't think he'd play corner unless absolutely necessary.
EDIT: Oops, I see Magnus already answered you...he and his "non-working" reply button!

I hope Rashad comes to AA. This is the kid i've been high for quite sometime and i'm glad he is finally coming up for a visit. Rashad can hit and is very good athlete, Rich needs to lock him down.
