As a longtime fan, I certainly understand what you mean, but honestly, what is the difference between AP and ESPN rankings now? Neither is from the playoff committee, which is all that matters. I suppose one could say the AP or Coaches' Polls are in stories and graphics, but does that make them more official? They are still of little consequence.

Hopefully Northwestern finishes 11-1 and Utah runs the table. This is a highly-contrived, dream scenario, but if we are 10-1 with wins over a 10-1 NW and 10-1 MSU and a loss to an 11-0 Utah team going in to playing an undefeated OSU...there will be people actually spontaneously combusting. ESPN would have more The Game coverage that week than for the 06 game. It would be a sure fire top 5 matchup/gameday/Harbaugh-fest....but I am putting several carts in front of a very young horse here.

If we somehow ran the table it wouldn't matter what Utah or Northwestern did - we'd be in the playoffs. Ohio and Sparty would both have at least one loss and wouldn't be taken ahead of us after we beat them head to head. Given that, I doubt there would be four other teams ranked above us.

And name one SEC team that looks unbeatable..

Ole Miss looked weak against Vandy the patsy ...Alabama still hasn't found a QB yet.  LSU is probably the best SEC team and they made Syracuse look good.  Auburn is a joke as is Arkansas (lol at Bret) ..

Georgia??  They're always highly touted until the inevitable choke at some point.

Missouri?  LOL ...  Florida?  Tennessee?  Also rans....

BigTen top half looked very solid across the board yesterday

a Utah team ranked higher than Alabama, and will face a No. 16 Northwestern in two weeks followed by the No. 3 Spartans and eventually the No. 1 Buckeyes. Well, BYU had been ranked.

Everyone says this team is looking for its identity. I already know what that is, and it couldn't be more Harbaughesque: Jackhammer. All this team does is bust up the competition at the point of attack and break your will. No worry about how it looks in the end. Just finish the job you started. Jackhammers, that's what these Wolverines are.

Joke. How does MSU get ranked above Utah--just because of their Oregon win? Please. And TCU cant play defense, they should be permabanned from top 4 if not top 10. Also how can you say any of those teams in any of the 10 spots above us have been more impressive?

This is just like the polls--it matters as much what your preseason prognostications were, as it does how youve actually played. No way MSU and TCU should be higher than Utah or us at 23. We are playing like a top 15, if not too 10.

That's nice but I honestly don't care about a ranking right now. I'm just happy seeing the team improve and actually being happy on a Saturday instead of walking around like a zombie.

I just want that to continue.

I'll never understand rankings. Especially preseason rankings that have awful teams ranked in the top 10 for no reason. A ton of upheaval in the top 10. Teams all winning, but dropping 5 places, or leapfrogging other teams that won, even though both beat non ranked opponents. No rhyme or reason with some of them. Utah jumped to the top 10, though, that's awesome.

Do you actually believe Ohio State is #1? This is why there should not be actual rankings until games are played. Right now Georgia is number 1, followed by Ole Miss, LSU and then maybe Ohio State, or Michigan State. I'd say Notre Dame, and possibly TCU could be in the top 4, but Utah definitely just made a case as well. The top 3 is clear right now, but with every week comes new challenges.
