Randy Shannon to Interview with UT

Submitted by fatbastard on

Apparently, Randy Shannon has intereviewed with and was considering a job with Kentucky.  That seemes strange.  Why go to a school that won't be able to recruit and hasn't been able to compete?  As a defensive coordinator?

With Muschamp now at Florida, apparently he has interest in becoming the Texas DC.  This may make some sense for Shannon.  I suppose it makes some sense for UT as well, coming off a horrible season.

Where does Michigan fit in?  Has Calvin Magee and Rodriguez and/or Brandon already spoken with Chuck Heater?  Have they already spoken to Shannon and did he decline interest based on Rodriguez tenuous tenure?

"When" Rodriguez is kept on, I don't see any way for Robinson to continue without Ann Arbor Torch and Pitchfork having a record setting day of sales.

Of how waiting till after the new year is a problem, if say, we want a new DC on staff here?  Hold that timeline Dave!

Hope you don't mind me squeezing in here. Couldn't agree more. A small part of me thinks that maybe he enjoys the attention. The other part fears that he is going to blow up what took 3 years to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The part that is left realizes this is all speculation and wish he would just let me know what is going on. Oh well.

Let me first say that I think he knows what he's going to do. I don't buy the fact that he is waiting to evaluate. If he is, then he probably needs to rethink this career. My worry is that if he does keep RR, he has handicapped him by hurting recruiting and leaving canidates out there instead of just making a decision.

Will Muschamp was making ~$1mill a year. GERG has been settling for $275k. UM doesn't pay coordinators like they do in the SEC and parts of the B12. The DC at UK made $315,100.

UM will not likely be in the discussion for guys that might command that kind of pay. You know, the candidates that everyone is upset that we're not in the discussion for. Maybe that will change with DB, but I think it's hamstrung the past couple hires.

I really wanted Shannon or at least the possibility Shannon coming.   I love the way he coaches defense.  You still need players, but he stops my top pet peeve on defense.............cushion.    He is always up in the WR's face.

I am looking forward to the day when Michigan fans, who claim to be so knowledgeable about football, can spell our offensive coordinator's damn name correctly.

It's "Calvin Magee."

I don't know what will happen in the future, but it is not certain what will happen to Greg Robinson. AATP won't decide who will be the defensive coordinator. Dave Brandon and Rich Rodriguez will.

Robinson SHOULD be replaced.  However conventional wisdom here and elsewhere have Robinson moving on.  Brandon commented on the Groban song as "it was different".  What do you think his comment would be on the fuzzy wolverine?  As you and "we" all know, the discontent with coaching staff is alarming.  I believe that Brandon will "force" a change on defense for several reasons, including to placate a large poriton of the fanbase.  The substantive reasons to do it, include the inability of the D staff to decide on and plan a scheme (43 or 335) and to run it correctly.  The biggest reason is that the defense (at least until the first half of the OSU game) showed no signs of improvement.  So,yeah, if the staff comes back exactly as is (which won't happen) then torch and pitchfork customers may stop buying tickets and suites.

what are the chances of him defecting to Florida or Texas as an OC?  Muschamp needs a spread guy to run the O down there and Mack Brown just got rid of his OC.   Not to be negative, but with the "twisting in then wind" for the next 20 days, this staff must be thinking aout themselves as well.  If that were to happen, we'd have dags and cats living together, mass hysteria, real wrath of God type stuff.

If DB really is going to "wait" until after Jan.1 to make any decisions, theremight not be a staff to hold onto or a new coach to get if he goes the other way.
