Random Encounter in Indianapolis

Submitted by UM Indy on
So I'm walking around Nordstrom in the Keystone Mall when what to my wondering eyes should appear but ... Evan Smotrycz (and his diminutive girlfriend). I don't know who was more surprised - me seeing Smot on a Tuesday night in Indy or him when I recognized him and said "what's up Smot?" I asked him what he's doing in Indy and he said checking out schools. Apparently neither Butler nor IUPUI have scholarships available. (It seems a little strange to me that these mid majors can't make room for a 6'9" Big Ten transfer?) He said he's down to Colorado and Maryland. I said I went to Michigan, enjoyed watching him play for us and wished him good luck.

His girlfriend goes to Butler and wanted him to move down here. So it's not like he's making a wasted trip to Indy because he's at least seeing his girlfriend. In the first thread we had about this, I was in a little late but said he would go to Butler. Apparently though, they're not willing to somehow make room for him.

Colorado is a team on the rise in a terrible Pac-12 conference -- I would not say that they suck.

I do find it interesting, though, that if he was indeed homesick why he is considering going all the way to Colorado.  Wherever he ends up I'll be cheering for him all the same.

I hope he goes to CU for selfish reasons, but Maryland would be a better fit for him.  You would think he would want to be closer to home.  Then again, if he left Umich because he was feeling too much criticism, then Maryland is NOT the place to go.

There are stoners in every town, and anywhere there's a college or university you can surely bet it's everywhere. Ann Arbor is pot friendly compared to most other college towns, but if being a stoner is really your thing, AA doesn't have shit on Boulder, IMO.

And no, this has nothing to do with Smot or where he's going, he probably just has bad allergies.

But the weed thing isn't even close to equal. The best pot in the country is being grown in Boulder County these days. Been true for a minimum of 10 years. (Not that that has anything to do with Smot either.)

I've always wondered how I would react if I ever saw a Michigan player in public somewhere. Best of luck to him, and maybe the Lobsters will make a trip out for him

Wow, lucky guy.

Now, of course that had a lot to do with the fact that they were playing there, but I'm always just shocked at how dedicated Kentucky fans are. One man asked me if I wanted to take his wife home with me, ha ha. I couldn't believe it. I was like, "Nah, I'm good," but that's just how insane the fans were down there. Great atmosphere.

I was thinking about these predetermined one and done guys today and was thinking they must just not even go to class or study at all second semester (much like Burke was rumored to be doing).   How often do their grades get reviewed for eligibility?  I assume not until the end of the semester, so they could bomb winter semester with no repercussions.  Seems to spit on the concept of student athlete.

He quoted "The Decision" in his announcement.  Smh as the kids say.  He looked so uncomfortable.  These public announcements with HS kids need to be phased out.  Just announce it on your twitter, include a picture if you must.

Smot strikes me as a boulder kid, even though he was supposedly homesick.  Hope he ends up playing well wherever he goes.

Edit:  Shabazz Muhammad on the other hand could replace Kevin Blackistone on ESPN right now and no one would notice.

But my favorite part:

Nothing like arguing DERR HE'S AS BAD AS TEH ACC PLAYER OF TEH YEAR...

After being caved, he claimed to have found Lloyd Brady in the FanCam. That sounds familiar...
