Ramzy at 11 Warriors (i know, but he's a good writer) has a great piece up on just how many people could have stopped Jerry Sandusky along the way. http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2012/06/12016/we-could-be-heroes
In addition to that, Dana Jacobson announced on her most recent blog that she was molested twice as a child by a baby sitter. http://danajacobson.blogspot.com/2012/06/jerry-sanduskys-victims-arent-alone-on.html
I think that Ramzy's point is a really good one, each and every member of the community has a responsibility to act. Thinking "someone else will handle the problem" is a great way to fail, especially when it comes to protecting children. Hopefully the silver lining in all of this mess is that people see the institutional and societal failures that surrounded the whole Sandusky mess. People like Dana are being given the courage to speak out and create less of a stigma for victims of child abuse. Hopefully in the future people will speak out and people will stop the abusers rather than ignoring the problems and taking away his locker room keys.
