Rampant Edge of Internet Rumor Mongering Re: Harbaugh

Submitted by alum96 on

Both Henson and Moss (YTM) have for some reason become much more positive about Harbaugh in the last 15 minutes.  Henson was already very positive but just went "way more positive" and Moss (who Brian did not shoot down as a source a few weeks ago) said "I was never convinced that Jim Harbaugh was coming here until about 15 minutes ago."

The "crowned one" says 8 years, 49 mil (6.125 a year) is the deal.  That would make sense - puts him in the "top 5" of NCAA coaches (#2 behind Saban) as Brian reported he wishes.  And a $1M+ bump vs NFL salary.

Some connection to the Moeller stuff but seems like something happened in addition in the last 15 minutes.  The Moeller stuff has been going on for 48 hrs - it would be strange for that to be a "new" surprise to 2 guys focused so intently on this hire within a 15 minute time span.

Again, "edge of internet" so eat your salt.

It's happening?

EDIT 11:20 PM EST - more Henson rumor mongering is Harbaugh looking at DJ Durkin as DC.  He is current interim coach of UF and served 2 years under Muschamp as DC.  Connection to Harbaugh = special teams coach for Stanford in 07-09.  36 years old (!).

Durkin is a Youngstown (!) OH boy, who has tons of Midwest ties via Bowling Green, Notre Dame in 2001-2006 as a GA and position coach.  Been at Florida since 2010.

I am sure the naughty gateway messages are coming. But if it means Harbaugh is coming then that is fine.

However, do you think FreddyJ was "a major source" of his? I do. I think my circumstantial evidence comes from the length of decent inside info he's had in recruiting & more since the dawn of modern fan websites (let's call it 2000 on the safe side) and the undisputed fact that Sam himself said "things are a bit different now" around the time of the Hoke firing. FreddyJ was the only person continuously on staff from 2000-2 weeks ago. Finally, FreddyJ be FreddyJ because he can't help but run his mouth lol. The guy loves a mic or, I'd imagine, being a source for minor info like recruiting, etc. Actually, final evidence would be recruiting. He'd get info from kids themselves and I'm sure an AD employee can know things but when many kids would be close to the vest it was Sam who would "go with his gut or 51% it" to = sure thing. Many of those kids decisions were only known by the staff at the time as a silent or outright commit is always known by the staff before going public. I say he was most definitely a major source for Sam. Not the only but a major one. I'm sticking to that haha.

I think Sam is making a lot of sense.  No official word from Harbaugh so Miles takes his name out of consideration just like Saban did with the Alabama job right before he took it. (wink, wink)

In other words dont believe anything Miles just said.

I don't think the Miles removing himself is a coincidence. Even off the record, he could have said something like that a long time ago, I think he may have been tipped that Something happened with harbaugh

Sam also said this immediately following Miles off the record comments:

So, it looks like Michigan did not heavily pursue or offer Miles.

JH is currently making $5M per year with the 49ers and $6.125M per year would make him the 2nd higest paid college coach and would also put him in the top 10 of the highest paid NFL coaches.

Also, an EIGHT year contract is virtually unheard of in the NFL.  If that offer is true it is a monster deal that almost nobody could or would match.

Is about a 1.3% part of his decision.  Harbaugh is declaring his legacy, one way or the other.  There is no escaping that pressure.  If he REALLY loved the NFL above all else, he would have already said that.

Now, if the answer is ultimately "no" he knows he is currently jerking us around and again, legacy and image are at play regardless.

I think we hear yes soon.  If we hear nothing, the answer is also yes.
