Rahk is Ham and not MAAR?

It’s funny, I’ve heard coach B call him Rahk, so I figured that was it. The site has been calling him MAAR since he arrived, I thought maybe they knew something.

I wasn't aware of this until I watched the press conference last night. Poole was referring to him as "Ham," but pronounced more like "Hahm" or "Haam" (or imagine like the "Han" in "Han Solo," but with an "M" at the end).

Or like the middle part of Mohammed...

I was also thinking about "rhymes with Tom." But yes--just saying that it sounds like the middle part of his name would have been the best explanation. Point taken!

UNC will call him “Dad”

How will UNC feel about the stupid Michael Jordan logo on the M jerseys?

UNC has the same logo on theirs, so...

If MAAR is a devout Muslim ... and I have no idea ... he would avoid pork products. So, perhaps this is a little inside joke.

I think MAAR is just an MGoBlog thing. I don't think anyone associated with the program or with him actually calls him that.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
Yeah I think MAAR is simply because Mgoblog decided very early they didn't want to type "Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman" in their write ups so they shortened it to MAAR. Never heard anyone actually say that from the program.

This is odd given that, I assume (from his name), that he most likely does not consume "ham". Or bacon. Or pork chops. Wow, I'm hungry right now...

I'm not gonna worry about It.
"From the land of sky-blue waters...comes the beer refreshing, HAMM'S™ "
MAAR is strictly the nickname given to him by this blog. His nickname with players and the program in general has never been MAAR.
I also believe Poole called him Hahm not Ham. Different pronunciation.
Coach said MAAR a couple times in this on the court interview after the game if memory serves me right.
...it was odd seeing him be so short with his shots, and then not use his left on that last layup attempt. Still, he executed that last play to perfection. Anyone else see Livers running down the other side wide open? I wonder if he would have been an option or if time would’ve run out.
I like it, but "Ham" feels like kind of a curious name for someone who is presumably Muslim.
Mu ham mad.
ham is Haram
ma-ham-mad
