Radio Announces UM Rumors

Submitted by Augger on
Was driving in the car, and heard Ryan Ermanni on WDFN here in Detroit start talking about UM. Usually he is a bit of a UM Homer so I kind of half listen to what he has to say, but anything about UM Football intrigues me, so I left it on. Now I saw bits and pieces of this on other threads, but nothing completely like he was saying on the radio...He stated that he has a source that is usually very reliable at Michigan and they stated the following facts to him: 1. Denard is starting on Saturday 2. Tate is not happy about this 3. Tate put some interesting comments on his facebook yesterday regarding this issue(this has been verified by a number of people) 4. Tate's dad is urging him to transfer, and he is considering it Obviously all this is third hand to Mgoblog, but I figured if the guy who is a UM homer was saying this on the radio, maybe its slightly more reliable than your average internet report. Anyway I have no way of actually deducing the reliability of this radio guy's source, but thought I would put it out there so people could make their own opinion. Lets hope its all just garbage. "TV (Radio in this case) said that?" Idle speculation...no way Tate transfers within a year, sits out a year, learns new system etc. His brother left because Henne/Mallet were top 5 QB talents - I would have transferred too if I thought I could start at Stanford. His other brother wasn't a D-1 player and dropped a tier. I have no inside information, but I do know the Forcier family seems very smart and I highly doubt anyone in his inner circle sees a better scenario for Tate than Michigan as of today.

I heard these transferring rumors last night from some AA area journalists that we all trust here. I think Tate's initial facebook posts were perhaps reactionary and perhaps more true - a better look into what he was thinking. His retraction, like much back-stepping, was probably him, under the guide of others, dissembling.

my current Facebook status update is:
Every time you hear a Christmas song before Thanksgiving an angel dies.
If I see a thread started that says "Angels Dying Like Whoa" I will be very upset.

The problem, as everyone and their mom have stated is that our defense is not playing well (due to many speculated reasons). The offense, however is doing well (#25 at 32 points per game). I know that DSU is factored into that, but that isn't bad. http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/team/_/stat/total/sort/t… Tate's last 2 games have produced a passer rating of ~150 and he is averaging 130 for the year, good for #62 in the nation (right next to Stanzi and Pryor). http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=480264

I feel he deserves a chance considering our team is 1-5 the past six games. He's shown the ability to move the ball downfield. Tate's numbers are a bit skewed from the start of our season.

I agree, I am not so sure Tate gives us the best shot to win. RR can't transform the defense in one week, but he can transform the offense. While we may think Tate gave us our best shot at winning - we haven't been winning. The shitty defense is a constant in the minds of the offensive staff - it has to be, they can't depend on our defense to miraculously get better. Or offensive staff needs to do something different - Denard is something different at this point (and even though RR claims both Tate and Denard get the same plays and schemes, I dont believe it for a second).

1) In case folks missed it, the offense scored 36 points last week. That should be enough to win in College Football. 2) While the Forcier brothers may have a history of transferring, I wonder if Jason regrets moving to Stanford. In all likelihood, if he had stayed at Michigan, he very likely would have started last year -- and depending on how he did, he might still be starting.

Or all of these conspiracy theories floating around are to throw Wisconsin and TUOOS off balance. One can hope. Forcier is 18years old and is now feeling the weight of all of our dumb asses in one way or another creating pressure by saying we stink, or we will be better next year (same as saying we suck now), or saying he is playing well for a Freshman (same as saying you suck but its ok because your young). An eighteen year old is going to spin a lot of what we the fans and the press say as extreme whatever way it falls. Do you remember anything as a teenager that wasn't earth shaking? I think everyone just needs to let the kid be a kid and hope in the end he has the wisdom to do what is best for him.

Everyone needs to lay off Tate a bit. It's amazing to me the pressure this guy has handled which was plenty enough back in spring ball, ramped up at the start of the season, and has only gotten worse and worse...with much of it (all the piling on RR) out of his control. How many of us could handle this without completely cracking up? At his age? Tate is doing just fine. It's us fans who have the problem.

i can't imagine tate would transfer, but i can't imagine too many things that could be worse for us. the rr haters will be primed- they will be revved on the highest octane gas they could have been given. if denard doesn't learn to pass we would depending on another true freshman DG (if he does come as expected)- that smells like another really poor season. rr's protector in bill martin will be gone. don't know what that will all mean, but it's not harmony and good times. hopefully, this is just tate and his dad being pissed about a small suspension due to a team violation. if that's the case rr is right and i have to believe tate and his dad will eventually realize that is the case. although one player can create a lot of hell (per above) no one player is above the team. in this i whole heartedly agree with rr.

to kill me, but if Tate doesn't start, I think I want Sheridan to start. I love the potential of Denard, but if this is a one series suspension, I would start Sheridan, run the ball exclusively and move on, regardless of result of the drive. Denard's TO percentage is just too high to let a game start with a fumble or INT.

Could it be that RichRod plans on using Devin next year. This way Rich can show good faith to Drob by allowing him ample opportunities to prove himself as a viable quarterback so that Drob wouldn't get upset if at the end of the season Rich suggests a position change. This way maybe Drob feels like he really got his chances but isn't cut out for QB position and then he might be less likely to transfer. I know this involves a lot of ifs but thats what we do on a blog...speculate.

we are basically giving up. he played zero snaps at qb last week and has only thrown 3 passes the last 3 games. i'll really have to question RR if he starts denard. we have zero chance of winning with him at qb, whereas tate at least gives us a chance to outscore wisconsin.

Can't help but feel a bit bad for Tate. Every status is scrutinized, and I bet even things he says to friends is jumped on immediately by 30 obsessed fans. Then again, if he wanted the privacy, he shouldn't have added 4,600 people as friends, either. @#4: how in the world would anyone know what Tate's dad is telling them, assuming the conversations are between just those two?

Really? We're giving up if Denard starts? Denard would be starting for one of three reasons: 1) Tate is injured. 2) Tate needs to be disciplined. 3) The coaches think Denard gives us a better chance to win. None of those three options involves "giving up," whatever the hell that means.

Could be a combination of Forcier being banged up and just wanting a change of pace. RR may think the extra speed could make a difference in this game. Who knows - I just hope we win. If he transfers we'll deal with it later.

The vast majority of sports talk radio is mindless, mispronounced drivel...yes, I am in west Michigan. But, having experienced excellent sports talk radio (Mike and the Mad Dog)thi stuff in Detroit exemplifies the slow sports day. What else is there to talk about--a CMU blow-out? Wings blow-out? MSU?-you've got to be kidding. Michigan is IT when it comes to sports or just about anything else in this state and this pile of steaming yard art is meant to stir the pot.

Tate Forcier is the quarterback of the future for Michigan. He has shown that he will give his all, that he can take all the shit thrown at him, that he can work with a coaching staff that has its collective head up its ass, and the in the end, if given a chance, he will deliver!! Anyone who wants to see Denard under center, who trashes Tate==IF I ever see you in person, I will kick you in the junk. Tate Forcier has been heroic--standing up and fighting the good fight with a coaching staff that is totally inept. Again, read...this...carefully: If you say one goddamm thing negative about Tate Forcier--I will climb into your bedroom window, after midnight, and rip you to pieces. I will have no mercy on your pathetic soul, and it will be painful to the point that you will wish George Bush Jr was president again instead of me ripping the flesh off your bones and feeding it to the rats that hide under your bed.
