Quinton Washington wins Indy 500 as crew member

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

2009-2013 DT Quinton Washington is a re-fueler for driver Will Power who just won the Indy 500.

The 2008 class had an Olympic bobsledder and the 2009 class now has an Indy champion.

Why didn’t the lead drivers pit for fuel when the caution came out? The one and two cars had to pit with four laps to go. I don’t understand why they didn’t pit during the caution?

how much does a re-fueler make? I have no clue about the auto racing industry.

Longtime Michigan hockey blogger/commenter @yostbuilt is a HUGE Will Power fan and is over the moon today.

Only thing that could make his day better would be Jack Hughes committing, but we have to wait until later in the summer for that.

very possibly someone you would have barely heard of.  Always had the best of cars, staff and $$$.  Drove defensively, just trying to finish.  Has always been the buzz around racing.

Her average finish was top ten before yesterday. It isn't anymore - now her average finish is outside the top ten. Seems appropriate. I haven't miss a race at the track since the early 80s and I've never seen a driver with so many excuses - in my mind she's just so unlikable, but obvioulsy everybody doen't look at this situation the way I do. Side note: this was the 18th year in a row a woman has driven a car in the Indy 500.

For some reason they changed it after the race - during the 1070 broadcast. Some discrepency about the temperature at the track and at the airport. Congrats on 44! This was my 36th consecutive. I had Carpenter, Dixon, Wilson, and Harvey in my money pool - so I thought I was sitting pretty with 4 guys in the top 5 with only a few laps to go. At least I still got money for placing 2nd and 3rd.

I remember when the Indy 500 was a must watch on Memorial Day weekend. Not so much these days, give me the Monaco Grand Prix and F1 over the IRL or Nascar. Good for Washington tho. What a story he can tell for the rest of his life!

This decade has seen some of the best Indy 500 racing ever.

Yesterday's F1 Monaco race . . . zero passes.  Zero.

Yesterday's NASCAR race . . . only one green flag leader.

Time to give Indy another try.  The split is long over.

My father used to race against Roger Penske in sports cars in the '60s.

They laughed when Penske (and Mark Donahue) came out to Indy in the late '60s as just East Coast sports car guys.  Now Penske owns all the Indy records, including 17 Indy 500 wins.  Nobody else is even close.

Roger is Mr. Perfection.  Quinton Washington must be elite to be working for Penske.  So, congratulations to him!
