Quick scheduling question

Submitted by Crootin on

How did we end up with 8 home games and only 4 away games?  Are there B1G rules that govern home and away game in and out of conference?

Conference games are determined by the B1G, they would be an even home/away split except for the fact that we now have 9 conference games, so it has to be either 5/4 or 4/5. Nonconference games are up to us and nobody else. We try to schedule as many at home as we can while still playing good teams - sometimes this leads to all home games, sometimes we'll be away but normally for only one OOC game. This year things just worked out that way.

With florida, they absolutely refuse H&H so i'm ok with it, if the alternative is a cupcake game. In this case, it might have been because ND cancelled on us with little warning. OTOH i would definitely take arkansas H&H over neutral site vs anyone. Both atmosphere and quality of opponent need to be weighed

College football scheduling makes no sense at all especially with the various ways that were used to determine a champion. Different number of home and away, different number of byes, different start and end dates, playing FCS teams vs not, conf championship games or not, different number of conference games, different number of GAMES PLAYED. Shitshow.

Edit: but not as big of a shitshow as the fonts on our new jerseys! >:0

The Big Ten conference schedule is unfair. It needs to be a eight or ten game schedule. The home and away games need to be evened out. The uneven schedule is UNFAIR!

It's as fair as it can be. At least everyone in each division plays the same amount of home and away games each year. There's an equal chance to make the championship on that respect. Who you draw from the other division is another story, but it's always been like that, even without divisions. Compare Wisconsin and Purdue's draws from the East this year:

WI: OSU, UM, MSU (all on a row, with 2 on the road)

PUR: MD, PSU, IU

I can't say I feel bad for the Badgers, because it seems like in both football and basketball they ALWAYS get an advantageous draw. They could easily start 2-6 if some balls don't roll their way:

my question is how all of those 8 home games are against god awful opponents. I doubt any of them will be ranked. You'd think we're in mountain west or something
