Quick Poll- Worst MGoBlog Trend

Submitted by Gulo Gulo Luscus on

What's pissing you off right now?  Feel free to add your own, but I will have to approve before it gets listed.  Sorry if this doesn't work so well.  It's an expirement on my part and the website hosting these polls is pretty new.

UPDATE: Lots of suggestions coming through.  Kudos to whoever suggested "Polls," and I have to agree with those noting "Posts with nothing but a snarky picture/video" (especially kittens), but I won't be adding anything new.  I'll try to post some of the more creative and horrifying at some point.

UPDATE UPDATE: Um yeah... you guys about covered it.  I think most of what came up fell into some subset of my initial poll options.  For what it's worth, RR discussion appear to be the worst MGoTrend by a landslide at the moment.  I can live with that.  Thanks to all who participated.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE:Thanks to profitgoblue for balancing things out with the "love fest" thread.  My intent was not to generate any more negativity than we already have here.  In retrospect it's an obvious consequence, but I hope people feel better having had a chance to vent.  Can't make something better without knowing what's making it worse.

I'm confused how you can argue that people forget that this is a blog and claim that people take things too seriously, but at the same time, threaten to dock people points for joking around about your admittedly, overly verbose comments.  Maybe you need to take your own advice, and remember this is a only a blog.  A blog which happens to be headlined by one of the snarkiest authors in the blogosphere, which only encourages more snark and sarcasm on the message board.

Maybe it's cause I'm....joking?

In all (~99 percent) seriousness, a "tl;dr" to anything is really just calling yourself a jackass, like posting "FIRST!!!!1!!1!!" except without the astounding refresh dexterity.

A "tl;dr" response to the above is just very un-clever.

Though with Ted below, I'm thinking of some retribution. Maybe not 2K points because he's been slowly trying to climb back out of a pit...maybe another pink pony avatar?

Why? What you had (summarizing my points into about a tenth of the words when I was rambling against tl;dr-ing) was funny.

Speaking of you and 'teh funny' -- I'm surprised you haven't started your own Midnight Maize blog or feature with those gifs. I mean this:

is hands down the most awesomest thing ever put on this blog!

The trend of boring meltdowns is really irritating.  Where are the em0's of this blog?  I'll tell you where they are; they are still here and posting, because people get all butthurt about criticism now so nobody puts the morons in place.

When negs had teeth, the meltdowns were more glorious.  Em0, using your example, loved his point total so much he claimed to have twice petitioned for (and received) bonus points from the moderators.  Only when he saw his point total start to fatally slip did he respond with his epic meltdown (the topic of which was the abuse of negs).

Bring back potent negs and the flameouts will follow.

6 months ago, I would have said the constant critiquing of everyone else's thread opener like they are judging the Gong Show.  But that has gone way down and people are way more respectful as time has passed. It's a great blog really.

The great divide: You'll never convince a certain segment on the merits of the firing of Rodriguez. The only slight gripe is when they play like people who disagreed with them are stupid and then point to the yardage totals.   But that is a small thing and within their right.

It comes down to this: It's easy to barbecue and belittle people behind a fake name on the internet. It is also beneath Michigan fans to do it to other Michigan fans.

What's incredibly funny to me in an ironic way is that what you just did was listed as a pet peeve earlier in this thread. And one I agree with. It's the internet. If you're giving people points for having an icon-sized photograph of a woman in a bikini. . . no man. Just know. Google some actual free porn videos. Go to hollywoodtuna.com for some larger pictures of non-nude women. Do something. But don't +1 someone's "HAWT CHICK(ZZ)" avatar and then, on top of that, explain the reasoning with a comment.

Unless you were being sarcastic and it just flew over my head.

People who are witty, but not adding real insight/value get way more points than others.  I personally don't care how many points I have/don't have.  People who are intelligently arguing/discussing their points should be rewarded far more than those who find the cutest "can i haz ______?" picture to make us chuckle a little bit.

I suggest a scaled rating system:

  • +1 for funny
  • +1 for solid argument
  • +2 for good argument
  • +3 for great argument

Obviously, this would be impossible to implement, but hey....

Threads that summarize what some wannabe controversial radio/TV/columnist said about anything. They're just awful and never lead to anything interesting. Your unique opinion of Drew Sharp isn't actually unique.

A couple beefs:

When somebody asks for TomVH's opinion or information in the middle of some random thread. I'm sure he's poring over every comment waiting to help answer why we haven't contacted Johnny Utah from your high school yet.

When somebody creates a post: Why isn't [insert promising underclassman] playing yet? Is something wrong with him? Seriously, the only time freshmen should be playing is when there is a cratered depth chart or when they are a Woodley/Woodson-esque superfreak. Otherwise, let them hit the weights and the training table for a couple years before panicking that they're a bust.

where it gets so bad the board actually runs out of indent space for all the point/counterpoints.

Gents, by the time you get to the third rebuttal, nobody's changing their mind.

Take it outside.
