I know (a) whatever he answers will be lauded as the best answer ever and (b) everyone wants to hear about the red meat stuff re: OSU and MSU.... but really if he just said "I prefer to speak with actions not words", I'd be thrilled.   Talk is cheap and all we've been full of is talk for years.  I can't wait to see Harbaugh "speak" on the field.

But yeah like everyone else I'll be drooling over everything he says and be in a lather.  Even though I expect all of it to be coachspeak and "reverence for Michigan" speak. And if he shoots a cold stare at Drew Sharp I'd consider that a bonus.

More seriously...

What will be your recruiting strategy from now until signing day?

Follow-ups:

1. Will you welcome back those that have decommitted and now want to come back?

2. Any specific players already committed to other programs that you will be going after?

How do you evaluate existing players when you come in to a new job? Do you watch much film of prior season to get a sense of their abilities/strengths/weaknesses to know what you are working with? Or do you start from a clean slate based solely on what you see from them in practice/workouts?

An answer of "yes" will give us an idication of how long he has be on-board with the decision. Follow-up, if all the assistants are in place by Friday, he has been signed/sealed/delivered for some time now.

regarding academic standards and how he has come to look at that issue, in light of his own experiences at Standford and Michigan.

And I would ask something about his intensity, referencing the blood incident.

I would expect that answer to the first question to make me happy, and be very intrigued by the answer to the second.

Just wondering what answer you would like to hear. If he really does think UM's academic standards are weak (at least compared to Stanford's), he won't be in any position to actually say that. What good does a PC but appropriate answer--the response I expect he will provide--do for anyone?

I assume you know that this was at one time a very big deal, including around here, and that Harbaugh's comments about M academics angered a lot of the people who are now welcoming him with open arms. (See http://thosewhostaywillbechampions.blogspot.com/2007/05/jim-harbaughs-c….)

At the time some of us welcomed the comments too, though, or didn't find them all that alarming. And my take now is that he has likely had some quiet conversation about this issue with Hackett et all, and maybe elicited some quiet agreements (which he might or might not be willing to get into). I'm not a wild purist on the issue, but I feel that the fact that he gives a crap and wants his players to get the best education bodes well.
