Questions For Pressers

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

First off, I know like me...many of you HATE these threads. But I'm sorry, I've had a few questions BURNING and I'm dying to see if they'll get asked to the coordinators.

Selfish? Yes. Who am I? Absolutely no one. I'm sorry. A couple of these are fluff, but a few are questions I'd really like to hear answered if at all possible.

Again, sorry, but I hope someone at the pressers will read and ask a version of these...

Borges

  1. Lewan said that he enjoyed moving around and that he thought you ran all but 2 plays behind him...are you worried about tipping your hand to the defense or is this a "line'em up and let's see who wins" type situation?
  2. Last week was Devin's first game without a turnover, did you see anything from him in particular that was different from previous games?
  3. Has Kalis fully recovered from his injury last weekend?

Mattison

  1. Now that Ryan is cleared, what role (on the field) do you see him playing over the next few weeks?
  2. With the injury to Pipkins and Ryan now back...are there any position moves?
  3. If you could name one or two things that you'd like to see out of this defense, what would they be? (points of emphasis or areas of improvement)

...you all feel free to add yours. With us coming off a win, hopefully they won't be full of anger and sarcasm. Wait, who am I kidding, right?

Why the hell do we look like shit against cupcakes when everyone was bragging that we would be one of the powerhouses of the Big Ten?

It boggles the mind.

It's a simple answer. When you have 4 turnovers, it prevents you from scoring and keeps the game close.

Take the Akron game as an example. If Gardner pitches the ball instead of fumbling and doesn't throw a pick 6, that game is 35-17. Throw in some points for the other drives that ended in picks and you have a blowout. In the UConn game, eliminating turnovers keeps UConn at 7 points and Michigan wins at least 24-7, if not more once you get those drives back.

If we can continue to not turn the ball over, I don't see a game on the schedule that we shouldn't win. However, if we start having turnovers returned for touchdowns, or at least to our redzone, again, we won't have a chance at winning games against quality opponents.

I thought this was going to be a trolling thread on how terrible the media questions have been. Cause here is the questions I wanna hear!

Borges:
1.  Can you talk about Sione Houma?
2.  Is it important to have less turnovers than it is to have more?

Mattison:
1.  Countess got a pick six, was that by design?
2.  Penn State's Quarterback?
3.  Okay, galdarnit, you tell us if Jake Ryan is going to plAY OR NOTKSAAJDSKAF!?!

[EDIT:] Okay, that last one isn't trolling. I just really want to know.

...since this thread is doomed from the start.

If you all had to chose.

Would you rather beat Ohio in "The Game," keep the undefeated Hoke winning streak alive, etc., but lose in the B1G Championship game and have to play in the Sugar or Orange Bowl?

OR

Lose in the "The Game," lose the streak, etc...but beat Ohio in the B1G Championship game and go to the Rose Bowl?

If you really want these answered, you need to ask them earlier. AFAIK both pressers happened already. It takes Heiko a little bit to transcribe them.

I do like the idea of crowdsourceing questions though, but I suspect it's hard enough to get in the questions MgoBlog/Brian needs to complete their UFR and other pieces for the week.

Here's a question for Borges/Hoke:

Last year, Devin was very successful using the hard count to draw defenders offside.  This year, the hard count seems to have disappeared.  Given the difficulty our O-line has had in protecting Devin, why not keep defenses guessing by using the hard count from time to time?

IIRC, they used it in the Minnesota game, but no one jumped. And I remember one time, they used it, someone jumped, they got back onsides, and Miller snapped it for no reason, then DG threw a long ball anyways, and it may have gotten intercepted. Not sure if it got picked or not. But Miller definitely messed one up.

if he's used the first half of this season to test his pass rush, whether he now believes he has to be more agressive schemewise to get pressure, and whether a more aggressive game plan is critical in beating any  oppponent led by a freshman qb like Penn State.

I think Michigan's staff has used the first five games to look at how its personnel operates in basic sets, offensively and defensively, and that game plans have been pretty generic based on the competition.

I think going forward, things change as Michigan moves toward championship month in November. I think we'eve heard a lot of talk about putting the best guys on the Oline and competition in practice, and I think that's what the preseason and first seven games are really about, ramping up to play the meaty part of the schedule. I just think it's been mapped out like that.

I would have a question for Mattison about the pass rush and where they think it is at - we're going into a two-week stretch with the 1st and 3rd most prolific pass offenses by yardage, so I would be curious as to adjustments - if any - up front.

Also, I think we need to ask the most important question for any conference or meeting - do you validate parking?

I have been writing all season that I want to see Michigan lose but then get revenge on undefeated Ohio in the Big Ten Championship Game, but I forgot all about the Rose Bowl.  I just want to see Ohio suffer.

1) Devin had zero turnovers vs Minnesota... do you beleve in santa claus?

2) Do you think it's better to score more points than your opponents?

3)  Beer?  yes or no/

For Borges:  Who on the OL might see playing time this year? (i.e., could Bosch replace Bryant? Could Braden come in at LT for a play or two if Lewan is a TE? Are there any redshirts that might be burned this year?) Do you anticipate Morris seeing the field at all, in terms of acclimating to playing time?

For Mattison:  What is your plan for Jake Ryan with playing time? Can you tell us any more about Pipkins' ACL injury?
