Questions about Larkin Retirement, Commencement
I am seriously considering coming in for this on Saturday. I had planned on coming to the spring game but couldn't so this would make up for it. In addition, I'm a lifelong Reds fan and Larkin is probably my favorite player. What's the problem, you ask? It's also commencement that day. I haven't been in town for commencement since I was commenced in 1994. Question - how crazy will it be? Commencement is at 11:00, game is not until 6:00ish. Will it clear out or am I setting myself up for major frustration?
With Obama speaking I would expect it to be fairly crazy
Edit: referring to traffic
But it should be fine by 6PM. I guess it depends on how long it lasts, but from my commencement I recall things being cleared out by 2PM. This does not mean that hotels won't be booked and that if you go out to dinner you aren't going to exclaim "look at all these people! Where in Zeus's asscrack am I going to sit?!?", it just means that you can drive and park near campus for Larkin.
Will still be going on later in the day on Saturday, so it could still be a bit of a cluster beyond that created by the big commencement early in the day and corresponding usual restaurant / hotel craziness for the weekend.
That said, I grew up a huge Larkin fan and would love to sneak over there, but I have to go from the early ceremony to the engineering school's to dinner with the fam to celebrate my younger brother's graduation, so i can't make it happen.
So get there early if you are planning on going. Gates open at 5 p.m.
