Question w/Michigan basketball (IMG broadcast) radio syndication

Submitted by karpodiem on

Has anyone listened to the Michigan's tournament games, online, with the IMG broadcasts?

Unfortunately, mgoblue.com links to the CBS national broadcasts during the NCAA games...My hope is that one of the local stations slips up and streams the IMG (Matt Shepard) broadcast for the NCAA games. The only way I can confirm this is that someone in one of these locations has listened to it online previously - http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/broadcast-information.html

It is incredibly stupid that local fans cannot listen to their usual announcers (god I hate the national guys).

Have you thought to tweet at Matt Shepard about it? He might know. [Edit: @ShepMatt]

I'd guess that internet streaming is considered "national," thus the exclusive national broadcasting rights would prevail. I would think the university would rather broadcast its own production, with its own advertising, if it could.

I could be wrong, but I thought that Westwood One / Dial Global Sports owned the radio broadcast rights to the NCAA Tournament. I believe the Dial Global Sports broadcast is played on WXYT 1270 in the Detroit area, although I think if you have HD Radio, you can get all the Dial broadcasts to any game.

This is what my initial research into this has found as well. I can't believe I'm going to be forced to drop $250 on a out-of-production Sony radio so that can pick up WWJ 950 AM in HD (97.1-2 carries WWJ, but I'm not sure if they broadcast the games or continue with local news). Lots of cheaper HD radios can do FM, very few that I've found can do AM.

I've had good luck with WOOD radio out of Grand Rapids either through their website or streaming to my phone with the iHeartRadio app.
