Question regarding our audibles and motion on offense

Submitted by iawolve on

I will admit I am not an expert regarding Borges' offensive schemes he ran in the past and I realize that we have not seen "the entire playbook". However, I am curious why we don't seem to have a few basic check options for Denard to call. I realize that we can't add too much to his plate, but I would think there would be some basic ability to change up the play at the line. Maybe I have missed us actually using an audible at the line, don't know if there is any insider info regarding integrating this capability.

Second, with players like Gallon, why don't we use motion more to move people around or even incorporate a quick pitch or swing pass on the run? Does Borges not use this much in his scheme? Was not sure of the downside if any beyond just philosophy.

All of these complaints are valid, and all are a result of us not running Borges' full playbook. Denard will make more checks eventually, and iirc Borges' used some pre snap motion while at SDSU.

We gotta be more like dogs! We don't want no kitty cats on our team!!

But, seriously, I think we're going to see new things as conference play begins, (mainly against MSU) The book is still out on our offense, so we'll have to wait and see.

No stats or data, but one of the things that has stood out to me watching this year so far vs last year is that Denard is making his own reads and checks at the line.  If I recall correctly, all plays and changes were called in from the sideline last year.
