Question for MGoHistorians
When was the last time that Michigan won a game while scoring only field goals? Just skimming through scores, I see 3 possibilities in 1998: Iowa, Northwestern, and Minnesota. Does anyone remember if these games were all FGs? If not, when was it?

That's the only one I can remember too, because I remember we lost power at my house and had to go to a local golf course to watch the rest of the game.

Felt like a block of ice when I got home and had to warm up in the shower.

Michigan scored TDs in all of those games in 1998. Weird, considering the final scores, but there are some safeties and missed PATs in there.

But that was a safety. The OP said "only" field goals, so you're probably right. But yeah, the game notes said this was the first time that 'M' has won without scoring a touchdown since that 5-0 game.

I know I did.

Michigan scored a TD (Dennis Franklin pass to Paul Seal) in that 1972 game vs. Purdue, but missed the PAT.

But, we'll take it now, won't we?

It's not really arguable at all. 4 field goals is 12 points. A touchdown and a safety is 9 or 10.

There are a few possibilities in the early 1940s for victories where Michigan only scored field goals, but only a box score could confirm that. A trip to the Bentley would lay this question to rest.

You can cross the 12-7 victory over Iowa Pre-Flight in 1944 off your list--that was two Culligan to Rifenberg touchdown passes.
And the 9-6 win over Great Lakes Naval Training Center in 1942 was a TD and a field goal.
I'm starting to think we have to go back to '32, but I'm not sure yet.

Can't find any details on the 10/4/41 game against Iowa, won 6-0--I've confirmed it hasn't happened since. There was a punt return for a TD in the famous 1934 Georgia Tech game, so that's off the list.
It has to be one or the other of these:
6-0 over Iowa on 10/4/41
3-0 over Minnesota on 11/19/32.

Scratch off 1941 Iowa, Michigan scored a TD.
"ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 4 -- Sophomore Tom Kuzma and the veteran Bob Westfall pooled their talents today to blaze the way for the lone touchdown as Michigan's Wolverines triumphed, 6 to 0, over Iowa's Hawkeyes in the season's first Western Conference football game"

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 19 -- It was fourth down, 4 yards to go for goal, with 39 seconds remaining in the first half today, when Harry Newman, Michigan quarterback, decided to stake his team's chances for an undisputed Big Ten title on his right foot.

You guys are fantastic. Honestly, I didn't think it would have gone back that far and I figured someone would remember a game. If I knew that, I would have done the research myself this week instead of crowd-sourcing it. In any case, you guys are the best.
