Question: Devin Gardner
If I'm not mistaken, the decision about the medical redshirt will not be made until his senior year.
wrong post. sorry.
I've read this, too, and that seems crazy to me. I'm surprised that coaches don't freak out about the problems that this can cause for roster planning.
One and done, flop who knows. You win today not tomorrow.
nothing new. it gets posted every few weeks.
Apparently, it isn't granted or denied until he needs it - his 5th year.
Junior Hemingway case in point.
Does the search button work in Alaska?
Yes, but Alaska is so big that the searches in fact take much longer.
We're supposed to hear very much in the future. I think Hoke said his senior season or something, IIRC
Devin will be going pro after his 4th season, with a Heisman trophy in one arm and a national championship ring on his finger.
A heisman trophy in each hand and a National Championship Ring on 4 fingers!
Well since he only has 3 years to that point, it'll be difficult to have 4 National Titles by then,
He can still get #4 if Dave Brandon goes on eBay and bids on TSIO's last National Championship. Heard there was no reserve on it.
No I think he'll stay for a 5th season, just to get another ring
If he has a heisman and national championship ring, he will likely be a top 5 pick.
I've heard multiple times now that Devin's status won't be determined until his senior year. If that's the case though, why does MGoBlue.com list Mike Jones as a RS Sophomore saying he played in two games, had a leg injury, and was redshirted for the remainder of the year? Jones technically played more than Gardner, but Devin played in the 1st and 4th games instead of the 1st and 2nd games. I can't see a rule saying a specific date on which you played means you need to wait 3 years to hear the result compared to somebody who got it immediately?
I don't understand it either. I've never heard of these things dragging out that long. The only explanation I can think of is that Gardner himself has indicated that he isn't sure he wants to be in school five years, so it may be a moot point.
If I'm not mistaken, the same thing happened with Demens and Hemingway. Both needed medical redshirts and were assumed to have them well before they used (or will use) them.
I don't think Demens got a medical redshirt, but a regular one. His mgoblue.com bio says he saw no game action during his freshman year.
Comparing Hemingway and Mike Jones, Hemingway's bio says "received medical redshirt," but Jones's just says "redshirted." And I don't recall any official word that Jones received a medical redshirt. So both the Jones and Gardner cases seem like odd ones.
I think the coaches or administration has seen the SEC articles about "St. Saban Memorial Hospital" and medical redshirts, and are questioning how truly injured Devin was. I bet they are hoping he's good enough to go pro and that we have a stable of QBs to take over so they don't have to enter that gray area of trying to get him another year.
Medical hardship waivers (commonly called medical redshirts) are not the same as medical exemptions. The latter is what Saban is accused of abusing; the former is what Gardner would be seeking. A detailed discussion of the difference can be found in this diary by JeepinBen.
Minnesota Gopher WR Brandon Green received his hardship waiver from the B1G in Feb. for his injury shortened 2010 season. http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&ATCLID=2051…
They could tell mike jones leg was broken. They probably have to decide if DG's mysterious injury actually happened or not, and if they will honor the claim.
But it shouldn't take them three years to make a decision. They should have made it already.
rastafari - how high were you when you posted that?
What happens in Alaska stays in Alaska.
The ol' "I've been stuck in Alaska with no means of traditional 21st century communication."
Nice try, pal...?
If you were out of contact in Alaska, you probably don't know this, but not too long ago, the Apocalypse came. Some people were raptured, some of us were left below. (most notably the entire OSU football team) Anyway, there probably won't be existence or football in three years, let alone a red shirt year for Devin. You really don't want to return to the lower 48 . . .
(Nobody tell him the thing was a bust - let's see if it fools him - prank of the century!)
No time for searches in Alaska between reading all the periodicals and keeping an eye on the Russians. Plus the no night and what not.
I guess they stopped using informative thread titles in Alaska too.
While there are many wolverines, grizzilies and polar bears in nothern Alaska, kodiaks only live on the southern coast. Hopefully you can communicate with the Wolverines of Ann Arbor this weekend, as it could be very exciting!
Alaska representation in this thread. 20 hrs of daylight in Juneau this week...
go blue!
Guy asks an honest question
with an apologetic tone, and you fucks neg and blast the shit out of him. I love this board, but sometimes I hate the cruel snobbery on it. Also I've noticed that the level of crap you dish out relates directly to a newbie's point total. Everyone on here was a newbie once.Frankly, I'm thankful that so many M fans around the country still want to follow and suport the team.
Second.
Talking to bears is awesome!

up there in Alaska?
So were your Kodiaks mint flavored?
Devin will be taking snaps under center on Sundays in 2014. Book it. So the redshirt issue will never surface. It'll be either Shane or, possibly, Gunner starting for us in 2014.
