Question for the board: New offensive analyst?

Submitted by KungFury on
I was listening to the Wolverine podcast and they mentioned an anticipated hire as an offensive analyst. This is not Frey who is obviously pegged for the staff. They made it sound like a bigger name who is being brought in to add more spread/dual threat elements to our offense. I haven't seen any posts about an anticipated analyst so curious if anyone knows who they were talking about?

Well if he is a college coach it would have to be someone who runs a spread and is currently unemployed. Art Briles,Chip Kelly, Or Mark helfrich. I hope NO on the first two. Must be a high school coach who is very familiar with a spread.

That is such a bad rule. It hurts the mobility of players and coaches. What happens if there is a coaching change? What if a player commits to a school as a junior and then the coach leaves after their senior year?

Stuff like this, even if it is just a proposal, really makes me hope an alternative like that Pacific Football League works out to make the NCAA sweat. Money and the SEC's tentacles seem to be the only things that influence their decisions.

I agree that it's a bad rule. And it hurts coaches that may see themselves more in a player personnel role or administrative role than always wanting to be a coach. I'm not sure why any big program would like this. But Chris Balas did indicate that it had some support and would likely pass.

Plus it stands to reason that schools that consistently produce highly rated players have coaches that colleges would value on their staffs. UNLV hired Bishop Gorman's head coach to be their head coach a couple years ago. You're going to tell UNLV that they can't recruit the biggest high school in their city?? Of all the asinine NCAA regulations, this would be right up near the worst.

I haven't seen the language of the rule, but it sounds like this will only impact new hires. Also this would not impact UNLV. This rule is for analysts, administrative staff, etc. It would not impact head coaches or your 10 person staff. So the Partridge hire would still be okay in the future with him as a LB coach. But the Bush hire would not be okay and his son and any other players could not be recruited here.

It's not me, I haven't perfected my scheme and recorded all my YouTube videos yet. Maybe by next year they'll have room on their staff... (Wishful thinking only, I imagine)
