Question about Zach Banner

Submitted by sheepdog on

How does the Mitch McGary commit affect Zach Banner's chances to play basketball?  I am not a huge basketball follower but do like it.  I was just wondering if Banner would compliment McGary, or if he would back up McGary.  Would they be on the floor at the same time?

I know Belein is generally guard-heavy, but would like to know if Banner sees Mcgary's commitment as a detractor or a plus for Michigan.  If he sees it as a plus that McGary committed, I'm sure this helps Ms chances, no? Thoughts?

It sounds to me like if Banner plays basketball anywhere, it will be secondary to football, so I doubt any of this affects his decision at all.  He'll probably pick the football school he likes the best that lets him play basketball.

Also, Banner is for sure a center and McGary looks like more of a PF than a C.

If Banner comes here and plays BB, he's probably not going to get big minutes I'd guess.  Beating out Morgan for PT is going to be very difficult.  But, maybe later in his career if he sticks it out.  And as someone pointed out already, Banner is a center and not PF so McGary being here shouldn't matter.

I don't think it hurts.  McGary makes the next couple years much more interesting.  Banner would be here 4 to 5 years.  McGary could be here for considerably less.

I've had some work and home stuff going on for the last few weeks, so if anyone wants to update me on Banner's status, I'd appreciate it.

The last I had been seeing, I felt we were in as good of a position as anyone else, but several posters have commented in a way that makes me think that we have slipped a bit in the standings. Does it appear that he is going to stay in-state?

I had actually been kind of hopeful that we would get the triple west coast o-line, with Garnett and Banner joining Magnuson. Has he been tweeting otherwise or something?

He'll count as a football scholie and a basketball walk on. Also it depends on how good he is at basketball. I wonder just how much a schools basketball program really would affect his football decision because McGary gives Michigan a whole lot more cred in the national media sense now.
