Question about Michigan Hockey Sweaters

Submitted by El Demonio on

Because I live in Florida and I am not as privy to these things as much as some of you are, I want to get an authentic (or as close as possible) Michigan hockey sweater.  What I see on M-Den are just described as jerseys, but they don't carry the distinctions of, say, the football jerseys that have different price points and levels of quality (Replica, Premier, and Authentic).

So, are the hockey sweaters sold by MDen considered Authentic?  If not, does anywhere in Ann Arbor sell Authentic hockey sweaters?

I don't know if anyone sells them anymore.  The jerseys sold at MDen and elsewhere are the replicas, and honestly, they're pretty chinsey.  The fabric is almost see-through, and they feel quite cheap.

Your best bet, if you absolutely want an authentic jersey, is to drop a lot of coin and put a bid in for something during the jersey auction the university puts on at the end of the year.  You can put in a bid for any jersey of any color (basically, the option if you want a jersey and don't care who it is) and might be able to pick up a lesser player's game-worn for a little bit less cash.

Agreed, your best bet to find an authentic hockey jersey is the game worn auction that is done every year after the season ends.  If you dont care about player than you might be able to get one for around $200, unless its a frozen four year.  In past years the maize/yellow colors were different when it came to MDEN and team hockey jerseys.  I have no idea why...but they are.

Even for the football jerseys, my opinion is that even though they say "authentic" those jerseys are of bad quality when compared to the real ones the team wears.  They aren't even close if you ask me.

It really depends on the year.  Obviously frozen four years are going to the auctions that make you pay the most coin.  For a non frozen four year, I have seen some reserve players for $200 so it just depends on who you want.  If you dont care for a player who played than you might be able to snag one for around $200.  But every year is different and with this silent auction format, you usually end up over paying for the jersey you want.  That just my opinion and what I have noticed when I have bid and after talking to other people who participate in the auction.
