question about hockey tickets

Submitted by sheepman on

Hey -

Are there ever people standing outside Yost selling tickets right before hockey games? I would love to bring my 6 year old to a game this weekend, but they are pretty expensive. Hoping to find someone desperate to get rid of two for $20 (total) or so right before the game.

Am I dreamin?

On the upside, tickets to LSSU games are pretty cheap.

Your best bet is the UM-MSU game at the Joe, which should have plenty of cheap seats available, or if you want to see Yost, the 3/1 Friday game against Ferris. But don't count on finding ticket sellers outside.

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've been to a game at Yost where there hasn't been someone outside selling tickets.  Even been in that boat myself when I had an extra or two.  Of course, the pickings aren't always consistent, and I think the OP's price point is probably a bit low, but it's pretty easy to find tickets outside the arena most nights.  It's a chance not worth taking, IMO, but it's not unreasonable.

There won't be any cheap tickets left for this season.  The team only plays at home three more times, once against MSU on Feb. 1 and the last series of the season against Ferris March 1 and 2.  They might play the weekend of March 8-10 in the CCHA first round at home if they ever decide to get any points.  In any of these situations, it is doubtful you'll find tickets for less than $30 a piece.

We have been going to games all season and there have been empty seats, so I am surprised you are having trouble getting tickets (especially since they haven't been playing well).

As a season ticket holder for hockey, there are usually scalpers floating around before games hawking tickets, but they are few in number and I can't attest to the prices or the quality of the seat locations.  Stephenrjking is correct though in suggesting that tickets are going to be hard to come by given there are only three games left in the regular season and we're iffy to earn a home playoff series.  MSU is sold out.  FSU on Saturday will be Senior Night, which is usually sold out.

Honestly, your best move might be to write this season off and wait for early next season to try and get your kid into Yost.  The first few home games are usually exhibition games or low regarded competition.  Lot easier to find deals when you're going to a home game at Yost in October when most of M fans are focused on football.

But I think it will be hard to find a pair for $20.  The ticket spreadsheet is under MGoBoard up top on this site.  I have 4 at face of $20 each for sale for the Saturday Ferris State game.

Good luck getting in for less than $20 for a pair the rest of the season.. I am a season ticket holder and that is less than face for seats outside the student section.
