Question about the helmets

I've been wondering what color the facemasks are on the new helemts. Some say it's dark blue and some say it's black. It definitely looks black to me in these pictures. Thoughts?

Correct. Not sure what the process is now, but there used to be two different companies that painted the helmets, and you could tell the very subtle differences in the wings. There was one guy who was particularly famed for his ability to paint them by hand, perfectly, every time. Did it for decades.

That clip really shows peak highlighter yellow when the helmets are entirely "maize."  I believe that was shot prior to the 2010 season.  Glad a few things have changed since then!

the wings and stripes are not painted on. the helmet is painted maize, then the blue is painted over it with a template.

I was just saying that they are not decals (unless whatever picture BlueReign saw was some weird, unofficial Nike creation).

 

My avatar is actually my own custom made helmet based on the actual process.  Spray it all maize, tape off the wings and stripes, spray it blue.

Yeah.  It's a hobby.  I pick up used helmets from Play-It-Again Sports and rehab them, paint 'em and add the decals bought online.  I've made a Detroit Lions, Central Michigan, New York Giants.  (Those are much easier.  Paint the helmet silver, the mask black, slap the Lions decals on = done.)  The Michigan helmet was a fun and different challenge, but anyway:  Yes.  I did that.

I originally was making a phone wallpaper and wanted that nose-down pic of the helmet against the dark background - well, just like my avatar - and couldn't find it anywhere online.  So once again, I just did it myself.

 

And then ultimately cropped it for my MGoAvatar.

Well thats cool, but i think you essentially just confessed to producing a pirated helmet, unless you had authorisation from the University. I'm sure one of the MgoLawyers around here could tell you exactly how much trouble you are in...

I may have missed this elsewhere but something that will be more noticeable once we finally get to watch football this year: Are they planning on using helmet stickers this year? If yes, do we know if they plan on making them smaller than last year?

as long as they get that stupid block M off the bumper and replace it with a Jumpman so the helmet matches the jerseys, pants, and shoes. It's time to end the mixed marketing messages and anyhow the block M is for old people like me who will be dead soon or already are and the Jumpman is for the kids and recruiting and stuff.
