We came back to AA for the Iowa game. Hadn't been back for 24 years. Our 3rd generation grandaughter is now a Freshman Wolverine. We watched our defense get torched again after the first 2 series. That night at Zingermans we met an alum from the 70's. We bemoaned the defense. He now lives in Austin Texas. He said that when G. Robinson was the DC at Texas his teams were the worst defensive teams in the SWC. The year after he left, with the same players the new DC had them as the best in the conference. He also said that the guy the RR fired (from Stanford) has gone to I think Syracuse and they have the best defense in the conference. Is this true. If so, then RR has no knowledge of defensive football and should not be the head coach at Michigan. If these facts are not true then I apologize to RR and the board. Dr. STeve
Question about Defensive co-ordinator
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Alright I got popcorn. Start the show.
Rabble rabble. UNACCEPTABLE. Rabble. Please research my facts for me so I can finish my rabble.
There is just so much fail with this post I dont even know where to begin. With all due respect to your degree sir I don't believe that some of your facts are wrong....I believe ALL of your facts are wrong.
You arent still working with leeches by any chance are you?
I actually thought of this immediately after I posted it, just too lazy to make it happen. Thank you for making all of my dreams come true!
I love the fact that you can tell the 'v' is the only letter you had to put in there on your own haha. +1 either way, good stuff.
Did the point limit thing just never go through?
But thanks for the Southwest Conference LOL moment.
UPDATE ('cause I'm a swell dude): Robinson was the defensive coordinator at Texas for one year (2004). The team gave up 16.2 points per game (good for 14th best in the country and 2nd best in the Big 12, not the SWC, behind only Oklahoma). The team went 11-1 and won the Rose Bowl.
LESSON: Just because some guy is smart enough to eat at Zingerman's doesn't mean he knows jack-shit about football.
Dr. Steve, you say? You wouldn't happen to be Dr. Steve Brule, would you?
For your health
Dr. Steve, Really? That is all.
Three question marks!!!
Aaaahhh, this thread is getting out of control!!!
I commend Dr. STeve for giving the ol' blog a whirl.
By any chance is your degree in Trollology?
like we are the only two people to think this but you have the courage to say....touch my hand...
Did the "alum" also tell you that you are a "doctor" while floating above you on a cloud of dumb?
ahaha Dr. Steve = my new favorite poster
I'm waiting for Dr. Steve to tell us to sit down.
It's great that although your username is Dr. Steve and your signature line says Dr. Steve, you feel the need to sign your post "Dr. STeve" because you know that the third time is the charm.
Thanks Dr. Steve.
He is smart because he is a doctor, but don't be intimidated because he is cool and relaxed because he is a Steve.
I bet he slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
If these facts are not true then I apologize to RR and the board
Apology accepted. I'm trying to think of how you could earn the board's approval... and I keep circling back to this freshman daughter thing...
Well, how many freshman girls with the last name of "Steve" are there...
The_Knowledge -- you've returned as Chuck Norris?
You never see the two of them soaring and basking together.
Is that you Dr. Lou ?
Dr. Lou...Dr Lou...
Can't be Dr. Lou, he didn't mention Notre Dame anywhere in his post.
You,re right but he did have all of his facts wrong...and that makes me wonder.
If Lou could ever open his yap and not say anything about ND, I'd still hate him. You'd think with all of his money he could get some dentures that fit so he can talk right. Good grief.
After you have finished brushing yourself off, come on over--we'll have a quiet chat.
This thread is hilarious, thank you Dr. STeve, you are a wild and crazy guy!
I donate my point to you so that one day you might get a f***in' clue.
The other ordinator?
GERG wanted Earl Campbell to play linebacker for the Texas D.
Gerg also wanted to move Vince Young to WR
How about you stay away from AA for another 24 years.
It did occur to me that Dr. Steve might not be a troll (he's been a member for well over a year), and that this has turned into a pretty nasty reception of his post.
Then again, he's pretty off the mark.
Please feel free to post again this time next year. You'll be able to see the defense's progress and draw your own conclusions. Instead of the Zingerman's analysis. Love that Roadhouse Joe, though.
Yeah, I agree, I don't think he was a troll and the response was a bit harsh. That being said, he should have at least gone over to GERG's wikipedia page to see that he was DC in Texas in 2004 and the SWC hadn't been around for almost a decade.
The first thing I thought was SWC? WTF? That really shot his creditbility all to hell.
Hey Doc, how about this internet thing? Did you know that you can watch porn for free on this thing? What I am getting at is in the future when you get the urge to type something about RR or Michigan, jerk off instead. We will all be better for it.
Wait, what? There's internet porn?
Dr. Steve still tells his patients that masturbation leads to blindness.
and hairy palms too!
I went too far didn't I?
doesn't help that your M looks green
How did I get negged 3,000+ points? I mean I shouldn't have been so hard on the guy but I just came out of the Rucker thread.
Dennis you blundered
Apparently so. I was going to cash all those points in some day and fly to Mongolia. Damn those thieving mods.
Don't fret, you can still get to Mongolia, it is truly beautiful this time of year, but beware of the thieving hordes.
I am not going to waste my evening. I am on a one man mission to get you back up into triple digits, life has meaning again!!
they're a real bitch aren't they?
at least you didn't get the 10,000 point hammer!
I've been following this blog for a while but just now got up the nerve to post a comment. Sorry Dr. Steve. That one deserves every bit of negativity its getting. Even if I had points to be able to post, I wouldnt do anything that stupid. It almost doesnt even deserve a response. Just dumb.
questions end in question marks. Dr. Steve you have no question marks. Trollish? See how I did that?
aka Dr. Lou?
This board can be cruel. Maybe this OP had a few (many) facts wrong, but some of these response posts are a much larger embarrassment. Yes, GERG had made some mistakes. We can all move on with our lives.
Yes, this place frowns upon people who start new threads to post nonsense
more fingers than MGoPoints.
Harsh crowd tonight. (edit: wait, who the hell am I kidding? It's always like that here, that's what makes MGoBoard awesome)
Dr. Steve, you would do well to remember that correlation does not imply causation. There are a number of other factors to consider with our defense and believe me, they are plentiful. Anecdotal evidence and statistics are pointing vaguely towards your conclusion and whispering suggestively, but that's all to what it really boils down: foggy, unsupported conclusions.
Our defense is young. As a byproduct of this, they are inexperienced. You would do well to study the number of upperclassmen remaining in our defensive secondary and ask some questions like, "How many true freshman are all-stars the moment they hit the field in college?" This is a problem Coach Rodriguez is actively working on, but there's no instant fix. It requires time and just as importantly, patience.
Coach Shafer is a good defensive coordinator - there's no disputing that. He gets shit done. But what we don't know as fans (and this is important) is whether he was a good match for the rest of the coaching staff. I don't know what kind of work you do, but I'm a programmer. We have people that do specific types of coding, and we all work on a team. If one personality on the team doesn't fit with the rest of the team, it really bogs down a project - and can even lead to its complete failure. I would venture a guess at this being the real issue with Coach Shafer, but it's just that - a guess.
Where's the trust?
Doc, there have been some state trolls thats got us a little lathered up, please don't be offended.
Now back to your normal programing.
I talked to that same guy!!! He told me that GERG not only had the worst defenses every year for all 27 years he was in the SWC, but he also killed a guy. Possibly with a trident. And then there was the mystery of the higher than national average occurence of yeast infections during his tenure. Of course they were downriver from that bread factory...
You know, I heard that too. Must be true, since we have confirmation from two people that GERG had the worst defenses ever in SWC history, killed a man (possibly with a three-pronged weapon once wielded by Posseidon), and also lead to increased vaginal discomfort in women.
In all honesty, I didn't believe the guy for a second. Besides, I don't think its really fair to speculate on what kind of condition a man leaves a vajayjay in without any substantive evidence. I mean, srsly. I refuse to believe that a man with hair like GERG's has ever left a woman's mommy parts anything but satisfied. Say what you want about his defenses, but I'll just continue to believe that he is a kind and generous lover.
Clearly the board is a little punchy today, because this thread felt a lot like this scene, with Dr. Steve as the guard.
Too bad on this one Doc. Looks like you actually had some points when you started. Did your buddy mention GERG coaching a Super Bowl winning Denver D?
Robinson's tenure as defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos occurred during their Super Bowl (XXXII & XXXIII) seasons in 1997 and 1998.Robinson's Bronco defense played superbly during the 1998 playoff run. The Broncos defense held the Miami Dolphins scoreless in the divisional playoffs, allowed only a touchdown as a result of a fumble on the one yard line against the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game, and then allowed a single touchdown to the Atlanta Falcons in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl after the outcome was secure.
after reading this Wikipedia entry about Gerg one can only come to the conclusion that he really must suck at defensive co-ordinatin'. Give the guy a break already...Dr. Suess, er Steve.
Dr. Steve is not a real doctor, but he did stay at a Holiday Inn last night
and he ate at Zingerman's
He's not a real doctor... He got his Masters degree, in Sci-ence!!!!
I hadn't thought of Dr. Science and Ian Shoales and Duck's Breath Mystery Theater in forever. A hearty +1.
As in Misdemeanor U? You are one clever fellow. Now hurry along home to tRCBM.
And remember when Robinson was the co-ordinator at Chicago U when they were in the B10? Yost used to run roughshod all over those defenses....
a defensive coordinator?
Signing it sloppily, Dr. STeve at the bottom was very doctor-ish.
Come on guys. The guy is a grandfather who probably has never posted on this board before, and probably checks it out once a month. It's one thing if he were a 19 year old who has been blogging his whole life -- but surely we can cut some slack to the grandfathers out there, who have better things to do than check blogs all day like we do to be up on the ins and outs of the M defense.
Asking people to be courteous might be asking too much -- but at least some consideration?
