Question about D. Hart

Saw this exchange on the ESPN chat wrap.  Is Hart really going to play CB at Alabama?  This seemed odd. Come back Dee Al coached Cadillac and R. Brown!!!!

John (Charleston, SC)

What are the chances that Isaiah Crowell will commit with Alabama after Hart had such a good game in the Amry All-American game?

Craig Haubert
  (3:13 PM)

John - it should not have an impact has Hart is being recruited to play corner for the Tide

Someone correct me if I'm

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this was talked about before he officially committed to Bama and we thought it odd then because they weren't taking him as a RB but as a DB/KR/PR.

Sounds to me like he'll be playing about 5 yards in front of HaHa. If they need a dime back. And their primary dime back gets hurt. And he grows two inches. At least.

Change of Heart?

He didn't get shown the love he and his family expected on his official visit so he bolted.  Maybe someday he'll be a Big Ten RB, but he isn't one now.  He arguably wasn't even the best RB on his HS team.

If you remember his recruitment, he was going to wait to see how a couple teams performed and picked ND even before the first game.  Jumped ship after a bad start and not enough love and committed to us the next day.

Dee is one of the most

Dee is one of the most down-to-earth, well-respected kids out there is this recruiting class.  To suggest that he's all about himself because he didn't pick your school makes you come off a lot more self-absorbed than him.

Perhaps not self-absorbed..

But he doesn't want to play for Michigan...HC change shouldn't matter that much if you're 'committed' to play at a school like Michigan.  I wonder why we don't consider this a great filter for the class...we're getting the players that really want to come here, get a degree, and where the helmet proudly.

He should reconsider

He should reconsider Michigan.  Our defensive coordinator coached Ray Lewis and Ed Reed so that has to count for something.

To be fair

Reed and Lewis are both at points in their career where they would make any DC look better rather than the other way around.

At no point in my sentence

At no point in my sentence did I say that Mattison did a bad job coaching the Ravens D. He maintained something that was strong to begin with, and that still speaks volumes. Looking at how the youth on the D has progressed in the past 2 years would be more indicative of what Mattison is capable of... and watching Suggs against the Steelers and the aggressive nature of their D in general made me quite pleased with the hire. Hopefully he can bring that kind of physicality and mentality back to Michigan's defense.

Not saying you did. I saw

Not saying you did. I saw Sheriden take an experienced top notch NFL defense and destroy it in the process, so I was rebutting your point that an experienced D can make any coordinator look good.

I disagree

Actually, looking at Bama's RB's depth chart would lead me to believe he should stay at RB.  Ingram's gone, and Richardson will be the starter next year, but Saban's shown he's more than willing to play 2 backs consistently.  Next year Hart would be fighting with Lacy (4 star in 09, not that great in his brief appearances this year) and another 4 star in the '10 class for playing time as the 2nd back.   After next year Richardson is most likely gone as well, so if Hart can cut it, playing time is there to be had, and early.  In the '10 class alone they signed 6 DB's with an average star rating of 4 stars, so it's not like they're lacking talent in the secondary.

Another Stud

Listening to Sirius, the Top Rb in GA is expected to give his love to Satan instead of staying home with Richt.  When I heard that I wondered who would find that they no longer have a scholly next year.  Now if Dee is playing CB that changes the equation just a little bit.

Good luck Dee.  We'll know in 2012 if you made the right choice.

Alabama is replacing Ingram

Alabama is replacing Ingram with an arguably better running back, and behind that RB is one who is just as good.

Seems reasonable on their part

Hmmm, that story sounds familiar...

We had a CB in the late 90's, he was a highly recruited RB prospect out of Fremont, Ohio....he wore #2.

He wanted to play corner

He wanted to play corner though. Didn't seem that Hart had his mind set on that.

He's also 6'1"... Hart is 5

He's also 6'1"... Hart is 5 inches shorter...

I guess Saban told him he'd use him like he used Javier Arenas or something... I'm not buying it...

That was my conclusion, that

That was my conclusion, that he'd end up as a Javier Arenas-type player. Not like that's a bad thing, Hart has the skills and Arenas was a game-changer, but it always seemed as if he wanted to be a RB.

Hmmm... Who coached #2 at Michigan?

Could it be, possibly, maybe Hoke and Mattison?

Dee Hart is a flip flopper

Michigan, then maybe Alabama, then still Michigan, then Alabama to play corner. I wish him well. We already have an all-purpose back by the name of Denard Robinson, so I'm not concerned.

He's also just a senior in

He's also just a senior in HS.  I went back and forth between Michigan, Ga Tech, and Cornell almost daily when I was trying to decide where to go to college.  I didn't officially decide on Michigan until close to decision day at the end of my senior year.  I don't blame the kid.  It didn't seem like he was pulling an Alex Legion or anything.

Cow Pies...

Interesting, as I was also undecided as a young man, but between Michigan and MSU.

So, in the 1980s my old man took me out to one of our family farms in western Michigan, walked me through one of the cattle pens, and asked, "Look around, son, you smell that?"

"Yes, sir," I replied.

The old man then fixed me with a firm Marine Corps stare and said in his deep and raspy voice, "This, son, is Michigan State... Any questions?"

"No, sir, not any more," I answered.

I'll always owe my father a debt of gratitude for his strange ways...

*(All of this is, of course, an approximation and rather fictionalized accounting).

D. Hart

Do you really have to abbreviate someone named Dee? Isn't that like abbreviating the month of May?

I chose to focus on this instead of him not coming and sobbing again. It worked!

It means something.  Homer J.

It means something.  Homer J. Simpson always wanted to know what the "J." stood for.   He found out it was short for "Jay".

Dee hurts because

he seemed to be a lock since his sophomore year. Alas.

Despite this, there seems to be so many good-and-happys around the program right now that I wouldn't be surprised if Hoke and Co. somehow bring us a top-25 recruiting class.

Consider the mood two days ago compared to today. The momentum and all the great press will have a huge impact on recruits, and two weeks is a long time, considering that most of these kids meet the coaches one or twice, tour the campus, and then make their decisions.

How close is Bolivia to Pollyanna?

95/5% chance that we don't

95/5% chance that we don't get him back. He seems pretty set on going to Ala. Remember his best pal Hasean is going there 100% so it would be extremely hard to waver his commitment. On playing CB I doubt it, but Saban always tries to stuff as many commmits as he can in a position (Hart, Crowell), so idk

Actually, this makes me feel

Actually, this makes me feel better about losing him. I think he's way better at RB/Slot than CB. He's pretty tiny and will get abused in by taller receivers. We aren't that hard up for a nickle or dime package CB. Could've used him on offense though...

Harts decision is Harts

Harts decision is Harts decision.  Defense was always a possibility and he knew that going in.  The draw of competing for a RB spot, and doing KR and PR duties maintained his interest.  If he has to play defense, he might as well play along side one of his best friends.

Hart is 5'9" and it is realistic he winds up playing CB.  It is probably likely, especially since he may have a position change, that he redshirts next year.

It is also possible that he eventually falls victim to the rampant Saban/SEC oversigning that is going on.  Time will tell, and we must all wish him the best.

I'm just glad he won't run

I'm just glad he won't run for 150 and 3 td's against us in 2012.  If he gets 3 pick sixes then I guess that would be bad too.  6 to one a half dozen to another.

Message: Come to Michigan, go to the NFL

We need to start campaigning...  Any defensive recruit that is not thinking of the possibilities with Mattison here is missing the obvious.  Dude can coach, and can build NFL players...

Dee Hart didn't want to come

Dee Hart didn't want to come to Michigan per se--he wanted to play for Rodriguez. Number two choice was to play for Meyer, and number three is Saban. We just need to let him go--he obviously was swayed entirely by coaches and not by schools.

Dee's just going to be another 4/5* cog at Bama.  He could have played a distinctive role in something special at UM.  Hey, we make our choices.
