QB Situation

Submitted by tjl7386 on

OK so it seems that we can almost start preparing for Jimmy H to be our next head coach. Baring something out of the blue happening with Rosen/Other highly rated QB, we head into next season we a 2 deep of Morris and Bellomy/Speight depending on if Bellomy sticks around next year and doesn't get passed up.

I know a lot of people are VERY un-impressed with what we saw out of Morris and based on his hype coming out of HS rightfully so, but if we do end up with that as our depth chart for the QB position what are peoples thoughts on who gives us the best chance to win? My vote would be for Morris and I am sure that is most likely not the most popular vote at the end of day.

Reasoning is as I would sit and watch each painful game every Saturday I would sit there and think how is it possible that Hoke and company would go out and recruit to a top 10-25 class each season and then the talent on the field would like like a MAC team at best. Guys like Kalis who a lot of recruiting experts said was the most college ready guard they have ever seen looking so bad or our 4/5 star RB and QB's looking like they are lost. I feel like this roster has a ton of talent on it, but for what ever reasons our coach was just awful at developing that talent and getting them ready for college. With the proper coaching I feel like we are very close to being able to feild a competitive team. Am I way off here or what??

Who cares about the QB situation. I'm excited that we might finally be a team that comes out aggressive and punches other teams in the mouth from the get go. I can't wait to see the team energy next year.

The very recent UM QBs have suffered from no real running game, a non MIchigan like offensive line, a refusal to call more check down plays to Kerridge and Butt (who will thrive under Harbaugh), and a star receiver who checked out/ had dropsies.

I can remember the first games of Harbaugh, Grbac, Brady, et. al and very few were pretty and they had tons of weapons around them - so don't be so quick to write off Shane. Brady was crucified his first year and everyone wanted Henson.

We just need a QB who can intelligently make reads and not turn the ball over. We won a NC with Brian Griese doing that. OSU did it with Krenzel. Their first starts were scary to say the least.

We also used to have a QB coach dedicated to developing this position. I don't know what has gone on under Hoke and I'll leave it at that. Harbaugh will change that.

I truly believe a star QB will emerge , who is a UM guy now, under Harbaugh. Since we all like to speculate here, I'll go with Speight, but wouldn't count out Shane. Harbaugh likes tough and smart QBs, more than guys who run 4.3 40s.

I also do believe we will get several transfers including a QB. At the top of my list would be a field stretching wide receiver threat.

Right now EVERYONE will be at square one and will have to earn a spot. When Bo first came on board his practices were very tough and many guys quit and thought he was a mad man. Could see the same thing now.

It will be a great off season and don't count anyone out who has the heart and drive to become a star under a guy who can really coach.

Kerridge obliterated guys but wasn't used enough. Our young RBs weren't fast enough to get to the corners, and rarely followed the holes he opened. Very frustrating to watch. Hopefully if Fred Jackson stays, Harbaugh does not allow this continue or benches RBs that dont block or follow blocks.

Morris still has the physical tools to rival any college QB. Cannon arm, good mobility, etc. On the flip side, Harbaugh is as confident as any guy in football that he can take a high ceiling QB and get him to that ceiling. He thrives with that type of challenge and his confidence/cockiness will want him to go that route. Because of those two facts I have very little doubt that if Harbaugh is coaching Michigan, then Morris will be the QB unless he has just been absolutely ruined, which I don't believe he has.

Or new coach, will give the qbs something they lacked.....confidence

It will be a tough transition, very tough . But those who stay will be champions

I don't think Bellomy can be saved, Malzone will come to Michigan no matter who they sign

There will be competition and no favorites .the best one will start

Maybe Harbaugh's not a quarterback guru, but one who can recognize quarterback talent, skill and "student-of-the-gameness." I'm looking at Harbaugh's NFL stats and the figures look a lot like what one would expect from Devin Gardner, which isn't to say that his teammates loved him any less (he was called Captain Comeback). The fact is, though, he was prone to throwing picks and being sacked for stretches of negative yards, so I'm thinking, based on the performances of Luck at Stanford and Smith and Kaepernick at San Francisco, that he is able to identify and work with guys who are not what he was. We've seen Morris and Bellomy after coaching (or developmental crippling) by Hoke and company. If Harbaugh can give them a stern bit of that, "Don't do what I did in the pros, but do what I did at Michigan," maybe Morris, Bellomy, Speight or Malzone could surprise us next year...

OL will be pretty good next season, I think.  We saw improvement during the season there.  I am concerned that our "skill" players (WR , RB) are big, athletic, but a bit slow.  We seem to be lacking speed at those spots, which of course, is not good.  Haven't seen Ty Issac play, though.

At QB - Morris hasn't shown anything in these past couple seasons.  He's had two OC's in two years, right?  Now this will be #3.  I expect him to struggle still because well, now we're in year 3 with his 3rd system.

I think Harbaugh's biggest challenge may be getting a QB up to speed fast enough to take advantage of the 2016 OL, which will by then be filled with very experienced players and a stable of experienced RB's behind them.

Defense?  with a healthy Peppers this defense might be really good...

Morris will be All-America. When he graduates, he will be replaced by Speight, who will be All-America. Then Malzone will take over, and he will be All-America. Followed by DeWeaver, All-America. After that, your guess is as good as mine.

This guy decommitted from Texas Tech not too long ago I know we recruited him, I wonder if we get Harbaugh maybe he can sway the 5 star quarterback. The kid can both run and throw probably a long shot though, but hey there is always Russell 'Hustle Man Muscle' Bellomy.

people act like good coaching will fix everything in 2 months, it won't. this team is still going to struggle this year. Morris or any of the other qb's are not going to be that good next season. give it time
