QB Play

Submitted by ptmac on

So, wow.

Tate looked really good from my vantage point. I wasn't at the game (my wife's due date was two days ago), but yeah he looked good on the big screen. I was at the spring game and he pretty much looked just as good as he did then. It surprised me a bit that he could step right in and do that. Really fun to watch.

My thoughts about Denard were reinforced during the game. He can obviously run, but can he pass? Right now, I don't think so. I am not sure if the plays were designed runs or reads, but there were several cases in which receivers were open and he ran. Also a lot of negative yards. Hopefully he can work in more and more with the offense during practice and get comfortable in passing situations.

Nick blew. Holy hell. I took Rod's word and thought he would be better. Uh...NO!

I hope we see a lot of Tate next week. I am a little worried that we might see a bit too much of Denard and ND will key in and stop the run.

Denard Robinson is going to be a tremendous player for U of M....at the slot receiver position. I do not want to jump to conclusions on this guy, but I'm going to anyway. He's going to be a slot receiver and a damn good one, but he just doesn't have the ability right not to compete with Tate.

I was pretty impressed with his arm. You could tell that the game was moving pretty fast for him and he was making very quick decisions. If the game slows down for him he may surprise us all with his balance.

Agree KY. He was very impatient. He needs to let the play develop. He needs experience. I felt more comfortable with Tate in there, but I don't like him running as much as he did. I know he's reading the backside end, but I'd still rather he gave the ball to the back given his size and the play of DRob and Sheridan. I was keeping my fingers crossed every time he ran the ball.

I’m not ready to give up on Denard yet. I think his nerves throwing the ball got to him and he wasn’t comfortable enough to throw much. Besides I think it was more about getting his feet wet more than anything.

The one to Matthews would have been a completion except he was late getting it off. Face it, he's electrifying with the ball in his hands but, I'm not sure he has the teams complete faith like Tate does. Early enrollment not only gave Tate a jump in knowing the playbook but, also with gaining the trust and confidence of his teammates.

D Rob needs more time in the system. Like they kept saying during the game today he has only been in the system for 3 1/2 weeks. Tate had all of the spring to get used to being the man. Plus probably no freshman QB in the country has had the coaching & mentoring that Tate had before even stepping on campus. I've heard people say Tate was born ready for this moment. Well that's not exactly true but it's not far off either.
Give D Rob some time.

Shoelace has barely been in the system. If you hadn't said that I would have. Also, I think that Sheridan INT ruined the momentum of the Offense. I think he will someday make a great coach, but we have to keep that guy off the field this year.

that the only guy that can ever stop the awesomeness that is the Coner is Rich Rodriguez.

In all seriousness, both Forcier and Robinson looked good in situations appropriate to their abilities.

And that observation has convinced me that we are looking at a 2-QB system for a lot longer (all of this year and maybe much longer) than I thought feasible.

Robinson has a LOT of work to do. As far as letting him play the quarterback position, Robinson was only one step ahead of Justin Feagin. Meanwhile, Forcier looked great on all but a couple throws.
