QB Kevin Dillman Commits to Nebraska
Per Ryan Bartow, 4-star QB Kevin Dillman is now a Husker.
A 6'4" 220-lb Swede who played his last three years at La Mirada HS in CA, he will play his senior year at Denton (TX) Guyer HS. He is a one-time 5-star dual-threat QB whose stock dropped after his production didn't match his potential and after missing part of his junior year with an achilles injury. He reportedly had high interest in Michigan.
He visited Nebraska this weekend after not taking any visits for about a year and committed while on campus.
I was trying to remember if this was the 5 star from California that had big interest in us. He has dropped down the rankings, wow.
I had thought Dillman was interested, but I don't think we every formally offered him. Aside from Nebraska, I think that Arizona, Louisville, Clemson, Florida State, UCLA, Tennessee and a few other larger programs were on his offer sheet as well. I believe the highlight reel ended up on this site at some point, and it was rather impressive, so this is a good pickup for the Cornhuskers.
Same. Big fan of Malzone.
Devin and Shane are both local, that's 50% of scholly QBs on the roster. I'm sure Malzone will get an offer if the coaches feel he warrants one. I was pretty high on Dillman, good get for Nebraska. If he pans out not looking forward to seeing him in 3-4 years.
True boom-bust type at QB, which scares the hell out of me. He could end up on Defense. Or at Tight end. He's just not too good of a *quarterback* right now. Very good athlete though.
I would also like to have seen him offered, but at a non-QB position. He's simply not a good fit for a pro-style offense. I'm not heartbroken over this one.
On the other hand, if he ends up doing well for Nebraska and gashing us for big yards, I will be slightly less happy.
At 6'4" 205 lbs what other position could he possibly play?
He's probably a legit 220, and I don't think he ever played QB full time at La Mirada but he played offense and defense for them and even returned kicks. He got hurt and his citizinship was in question for a bit. His offer list speaks to his talent, was high on UM but no offer. Coaches went after a few other 5* who commitied elsewhere. Water under the bridge now...
He looks almost exactly like a high school QB I know of who went on to college and became a beast of a middle linebacker.
Does this mean Hoke isn't up to the task of international recruiting against the likes of Mork, but Peleni is?
I believe he commited because we probably stopped recruiting him.
I'm not sure who Michigan will offer next, but I don't think Dillman to Nebraska is a big loss. There are better quarterbacks still on our radar.
For those of you wondering, he transferred to Denton (TX) Guyer from La Mirada (CA) La Mirada after the 2013 season. So yes, this is the same guy who's been on Michigan's radar for a while.
committment - I predict he will eventually decommit once he gets to know Bo Pellini better. Even Pellini can seem like a good guy while recruting but eventually his nature will emerge.
QB targets the coaches are confident in landing to let up on his recruitment. We don't even know, may be Nuss went down to evaluate him earlier this year and did not think he had the skill sets for his offense.
Not a big loss for us. Good to see Big Ten getting some 4 star talent, even if his stock dropped some. I don't think Nuss was too high on him.
rated quartback on Scout now. He has really been falling fast. Obviously he hasn't shown a lot recently.
For anyone who bothers to click on this thread, Dillman ended up signing with North Texas. He ended up as a 247 Composite 3-star, the #64 athlete, and #826 overall.
Maybe he can give us an update on Conelius (not Cornelius) Jones.
Conelius Jones is taking a class at Fort Sumter Community College and learning how to spell his own name correctly.
You know, we hear about at least a few hundred recruits in each cycle, and sometimes there's a lot of hype around some guys who fall off the radar. As I was researching a more recent recruiting target, I came across Dillman's name. Last I knew, he was committed to Nebraska, so I was surprised to see he signed with someone else.
Anyway, there were several people around these parts who were pining for Dillman to get an offer as a QB. It turned out, he didn't even win the QB job outright at his new school.
Thanks for the update. This is a kid people were really hard after, and for seemingly no reason other than the sites were high on him initially. Another example of "football coaches know more than Rivals analysts do."
