Purple Lot Connundrum
Looking for MGoBloggers out here who park or tailgate in the Purple Lot/Pioneer HS Lot. I got moved out there because my old lot is closed for the next two years. I have a tailgate that involves five other vehicles and had some questions if any of you are capable of answering.
1) Where do you enter? I've seen two entrances off Main St but I always thought there was a back entrance off either Stadium or 7th. I know I used for the spring game in 2008 and ended up parked by the tennis courts? Anyone know if thats true on game days??
2) I thought purple lot is also a pay lot? Am I wrong on this? Do they send people with passes to the side closest to Stadium and allow people to buy space closer to the Pioneer Athletic Fields??
3) Thats a really big lot! Does it fill?? If so, by when? If you roll up at 10 for Noon game, where do you end up parking? Over by the school or are you still in that big empty field at the corner of Stadium and Main?
4) As I mentioned, I tailgate with several people who drive in from different parts of MI. Usually two cars get there first and hold spots for the other three. Does that happen in the purple or do they jam you in next to each other as you arrive???
a) Is there the option to park closer to the school or on some more remote part if you're saving space rather than packing in. I assume the closer to the stadium you are, the more packed in you are.
Any of you who know the purple lot and its practices well, would greatly appreciate your insight.
With my tickets I had an option to buy a purple lot space and passed.
I don't know how much of a discount it is, but you can find spots there, even late, for most games. The parking keeps going down Stadium, so there are lots and lots of spaces.
I called the ticket office to ask about it and they said that there is no special area for purple lot pass holders; first come, first served anywhere in the lot.
I see that there is a lot of parking lot-area construction going on, right now, in the Pioneer parking lot. What's that all about? What are they building? Is it going to remain as parking, or something else?
They were putting in stormwater drains. The last report I heard was it will return to a grass field by football season.
I imagine that new brick wall will result in the loss of more than a few spots.
I have heard many people over the years discuss the issue of drinking on Pioneer property. I have heard from some as long as you hide it (big cups) you are okay, but from others that they are pretty aggressive against alcohol. What have your experiences been?
Everytime I have parked there it is first come first serve and they direct you to your spot. So yeah, they have always jammed people in as soon as they arrive. The first entrance is for passes only, but I believe they still park you as you arrive. As I have never bought season parking passes I can't say for sure on what happens there though.
I have absolutely no helpful info for you, but I am so using 'Purple Lot Conundrum' as the name of my indie rock band. That said, the odds of me starting this rock band are about the same as Morgan Trent going over to RR's house tonight to make s'mores.
