Purdue Trash Talk Follow-Up

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

A bit of a cheap post, but it's Sunday afternoon, and this makes me happy:

Purdue WR Gregory Phillips before the game: "It's going to be a surprise when people see us beat Michigan ... nobody can stop us right now except ourselves."

Purdue WR Gregory Phillips during the game: 0 catches for 0 yards, 0 rushes for 0 yards, 0 touchdowns.

Khaleke Hudson had it right - talk is cheap.

Why does everyone on this thread get all butthurt every time someone says something less than amazing about UM?

These guys are kids. They're going to talk. Stop getting your panties in a bunch over it.

He must be new to sports period, because players and fans really love to win a game after some opposing team trash talk. The Michigan players have stated that they've used the trash talk as motivation each time it happened this season.

So let the trash or overconfident talk keep coming from our opposition.

It's something I genuinely can't figure out though. Michigan players are taught not to run their mouths before or after a game. But we've seen several instances in recent history of opponents talking trash before Michigan throttled them. Do these kids think it's going to give them some sort of advantage? Michigan has enough motivation to beat the tar out of them, but these moronic quotes can only fuel that fire.

Yea, Purdue really does have a lack of on the field leadership. 3 of their "best" players on defense either got ejected or flagged for really stupid actions. That late hit 10 yards out of bounds made me mad, especially when the camera pans to the guy and he has a big smile on his face.

They should just know that there could be consequences.  Saying you're confident and you expect to win games is fine.  Saying you're going to beat a team with one of the best defenses in the country as on offensive player is going to piss off the other team.  I don't care if he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express!

Can't quite remember what Michigan player it was but he had some quote after the game about humble pie that made me smile. Talk is cheap...unless you're Mike Hart.

passing during his postgame remarks to the press, suggesting his team probably should have avoided talking about Michigan before the game. Just a simple life lesson.

A team is always a reflection of its coach. And quite obviously the Purdue staff was working the officials to get every call, and I heard nothing from Brohm afterwards about the targeting calls that beset his team. I mean there were repeated headhunting hits in that game by Purdue players throughout the game, and the second hit on Speight after he was down and put him out of the game was clearly a personal foul.

Went for a Sunday drive with my son today. Driving down Vinton Ave in between 7 Mile and 10 Mile I see something ahead so I slow down. As we got closer I realized it was a smashed chair in the middle of the road. I started laughing out loud. So glad Fox played that pep talk, a lot.

I mean to be fair that's how a team should prepare for a big game. If u don't believe u can win why play the game. Brohm knows how to hype up the fan base they sold out the game based on nothing but hope really and to be fair they are a good team mayb a few years away from really competing in the west. It would make the big ten great if Purdue became a consistent power house like they were with Tiller. If Illinois can get something going as well the divisions become much more balanced
