Purdue Trash Talk Follow-Up
A bit of a cheap post, but it's Sunday afternoon, and this makes me happy:
Purdue WR Gregory Phillips before the game: "It's going to be a surprise when people see us beat Michigan ... nobody can stop us right now except ourselves."
Purdue WR Gregory Phillips during the game: 0 catches for 0 yards, 0 rushes for 0 yards, 0 touchdowns.
Khaleke Hudson had it right - talk is cheap.

SURPRISE Greg!!!
You lose
September 24th, 2017 at 5:36 PM ^
....but I am sure they out hit us!
September 24th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
Nah, see, nobody can beat Purdue except Purdue, so he CHOSE to get zero receptions or carries. You know, just so the game could be competitive.
So, really, it's Philips who made Purdue get 10 yards after halftime...

just checkin' the brakes.

Late hits out of bounds, late hits in bounds, they came out to the field like their coach gave them some cheesy let's get out there and hurt them talk in the locker room. They only hurt themselves! GO BLUE!
September 25th, 2017 at 9:54 AM ^
man. Coach "smashing" a chair in his pregame speech got me pretty motivated too. Not surprising they all came out like Hacksaw Jim Dugan.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:21 PM ^
Oh Greg, loud, stupid and overconfident is no way to go through life, son.
September 24th, 2017 at 6:20 PM ^
Fat, drunk and stupid is bad too.
+1 for the Animal House allusion.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:22 PM ^
And I was hoping this was gonna be a bunch of quotes from fans saying, "we're just one year away!"
September 24th, 2017 at 7:50 PM ^
Mgoblog about 1/2 of the time ... especially with the OL.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:23 PM ^
Why does everyone on this thread get all butthurt every time someone says something less than amazing about UM?
These guys are kids. They're going to talk. Stop getting your panties in a bunch over it.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:23 PM ^
You must be new here. Welcome!
September 24th, 2017 at 5:30 PM ^
was describing the newbie here at mgoblog. Kid has a lot to learn.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:33 PM ^
Now that's funny. Don't care who you are.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:41 PM ^
He must be new to sports period, because players and fans really love to win a game after some opposing team trash talk. The Michigan players have stated that they've used the trash talk as motivation each time it happened this season.
So let the trash or overconfident talk keep coming from our opposition.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:30 PM ^
It's something I genuinely can't figure out though. Michigan players are taught not to run their mouths before or after a game. But we've seen several instances in recent history of opponents talking trash before Michigan throttled them. Do these kids think it's going to give them some sort of advantage? Michigan has enough motivation to beat the tar out of them, but these moronic quotes can only fuel that fire.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:32 PM ^
Butthurt? I think most people enjoyed it. It's not often the buildup to Michigan-Purdue gets spicy. We just didn't want him to back it up.
September 25th, 2017 at 7:53 AM ^
Indeed. And some people even enjoy getting butthurt.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:39 PM ^
It's not the kids- it's the coaches.
Bo, Carr and Jim will have you doing suicide drills for trash talk.
Shows lack of leadership.
The only Michigan player that ever got away with it was Hart.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:44 PM ^
Hart did it after we won. Ditto Woodson.
September 24th, 2017 at 10:44 PM ^
Not quite. After the 0-2 start in 2007, Mike Hart guaranteed a win over Notre Dame. Voila, 38-0 UM victory.
September 24th, 2017 at 6:10 PM ^
Guaranteeing victory over the Bucks.

WR (and co-captain I believe) said that they wanted to beat OSU so bad that John Cooper would get fired in 1994 - my Senior year. Didn't work out so well.
In retrospect maybe it was reverse psychology given they kept Cooper around another 6 years during which UM went 5-1.
September 24th, 2017 at 7:42 PM ^
arguably...
September 25th, 2017 at 1:25 AM ^
Yea, Purdue really does have a lack of on the field leadership. 3 of their "best" players on defense either got ejected or flagged for really stupid actions. That late hit 10 yards out of bounds made me mad, especially when the camera pans to the guy and he has a big smile on his face.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:42 PM ^
Lighten up Francis. Or don't, depending on who's trash talking.
September 24th, 2017 at 7:01 PM ^
I'm not wearing any panties.

One for everyday of the week...
September 24th, 2017 at 5:27 PM ^
They should just know that there could be consequences. Saying you're confident and you expect to win games is fine. Saying you're going to beat a team with one of the best defenses in the country as on offensive player is going to piss off the other team. I don't care if he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express!
GO BLUE!!
September 24th, 2017 at 5:29 PM ^
More like Gerg.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:29 PM ^
After seeing Purdue in action yesterday... What a weird program.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:30 PM ^
Can't quite remember what Michigan player it was but he had some quote after the game about humble pie that made me smile. Talk is cheap...unless you're Mike Hart.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:36 PM ^
humble pie... cut a slice before someone cuts one for you. https://t.co/pRzDTefsEF

You got some splainin' to do!
He didn't do too much to make it happen according to those statistics.

passing during his postgame remarks to the press, suggesting his team probably should have avoided talking about Michigan before the game. Just a simple life lesson.
A team is always a reflection of its coach. And quite obviously the Purdue staff was working the officials to get every call, and I heard nothing from Brohm afterwards about the targeting calls that beset his team. I mean there were repeated headhunting hits in that game by Purdue players throughout the game, and the second hit on Speight after he was down and put him out of the game was clearly a personal foul.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:55 PM ^
Went for a Sunday drive with my son today. Driving down Vinton Ave in between 7 Mile and 10 Mile I see something ahead so I slow down. As we got closer I realized it was a smashed chair in the middle of the road. I started laughing out loud. So glad Fox played that pep talk, a lot.
September 24th, 2017 at 6:05 PM ^
I mean to be fair that's how a team should prepare for a big game. If u don't believe u can win why play the game. Brohm knows how to hype up the fan base they sold out the game based on nothing but hope really and to be fair they are a good team mayb a few years away from really competing in the west. It would make the big ten great if Purdue became a consistent power house like they were with Tiller. If Illinois can get something going as well the divisions become much more balanced
