I was wondering the same thing. They made it sound like he has just a standard scholarship offer though.

You actually can't hand deliver NLIs so it won't be during his visit. I don't understand the rule, but that's what it is.

It's a legitimate reference. Fortunately he's already answered with his choice.

more of a greige, I think. Pewter maybe.

We have an open punting job this fall. I assume that was the main reason to offer a punter. There's no need for him to be a blueshirt. That was just a way to go above 30 in the class.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:08 PM ^
Can someone explain how we got to 30? I have a Bucknut coworker that keeps riding me about oversigning and I missed how we get to that number. I know 28 is the new 25 with EEs. Thanks!
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
5 EE's got banked back into the 2016 class which was officially 20
we signed 29 in 2016 - one (Brad Hawkins) moved to 2017 by going to prep school, 1 left school after being suspended (Mitchell) and one did not qualify and went elsewhere (Dytarious JOhnson)
leaves 26, of which 6 were early enrollees backdated to 2015 which was a very small class
so officially we have 25 2017 signees and no room to backdate any 2018 signees to 2017, limiting that class to 25 (although probably less due to the 85 total scholarship limit)
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
Thanks! When did the limit of EEs change from 3? Wasn't that a Big 10 rule?
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
we moved 6 from the 2016 class to 2015
we have 11 EE's this year
I think as long as you have open scholarships at the end of the season there is no set limit on EE's
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^
I thought the 28 number was an SEC rule. I was under the impression that you could alwasy backdate as many EEs as you had room for in the previous class.
Stable programs who aren't running guys off left and right (a la Alabama) generally don't spend too much time worrying about it because the 85 number becomes the one that matters. Soon, Michigan will be in that boat as the effects of multiple coaching changes wears off.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:25 PM ^
don't think there is anyway we hit 25 in the 2018 class, but then again you never know
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:31 PM ^
Yeah, but with two monster classes in a row, we could be looking at a couple years of small classes followed by more monster classes, where we could be talking again about backdating EEs. I would expect that to even out eventually so we're looking at classes pretty consistently in the 22-25 range.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
has already gone from 29 to 26
2015's class had 14
Cole and Andrew are already gone so that class is down to 12
each class always seems to lose a few for one reason or another
February 2nd, 2017 at 2:55 PM ^
Of course every class loses a few, but when you only have 85 scholarships to work with, a class of even 26 is still quite large. And that 2015's class has gotten smaller doesn't really help.
Assuming everyone makes it to fall camp, and no more are lost from the 2016 class, that would be 56 scholarships, leaving just 29(!) for the other three recruiting classes that will makeup the 2017 football team. It's going to take some time to even out that imbalance. It's most likely going to be accomplished through limited use of redshirts, early NFL departures, and playing time transfers.
February 2nd, 2017 at 4:29 PM ^
it never was a rule.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:29 PM ^
We backdated 7 EEs last year. You can backdate as many as you can while not going over 25 for previous class. You can have as many EEs as you want as long as you aren't going over 85 fscholarships or the semester.
There is a Big Ten rule allowing schools to sign 3 over the 85 roster limit. They have to be down to 85 when they enroll and are also supposed to show where the space will come from. It doesn't apply to going over the 25 class limit though.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:31 PM ^
we backdated 7, but one was Mitchell, so we're down to 26 in the class with 6 EE's to make the 2016 class 20
just so people don't get confused, even though I might be one of the confused
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:58 PM ^
The Big Ten rule you are thinking of is the oversigning rule, not the backdating rule. The Big Ten allows you to carry up to 88 players in the offseason, as long as you can clearly document how that number will be back down to 85 before fall camp.
The only rule that affects backdating EE's is that you have to stay within the 25 per year rule. We won't be able to backdate any EE's next year.

This offer seemed to go out as Becton and Gay were heading elsewhere. My question is, if those 2 guys would have came here, what would we have done with Robbins? PWO? Go punterless ala Dallas Carter in FNL?
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:15 PM ^
Becton and Gay told the staff they weren't coming. Partridge just visited him the day before, probably knew then. Doubtful we could flip a committed kid with a PWO offer. He's not guaranteed to win the job either. We have some options; Tice, Nordin, Hart.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:59 PM ^
Thought it may not have been as much Northwestern there as it was MSU.
February 2nd, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
But that was the reversed situation. MSU failed trying to use a scholarship to flip a PWO commit. (Something that probably happens all the time with their academic scholarship offers.) Not nearly as hard as flipping a scholarship commit by offering him a PWO.
February 2nd, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^
Robbins' offer was contingent upon us missing at least one of Becton and Gay, maybe both. Had we filled that scholarship we would not have offered Robbins and our punter would probably be set as Will Hart. Now it will be a competition between Hart and Robbins. Robbins probably was aware of the conditional nature of his offer from us, and you don't turn down a Michigan offer for Nevada.

Is Ace putting up a hello post for him? Punters are mysterious and I want details!
